I've run my Rx 300 engine with 20w50 lubricant for 4 years now(from Toks). I can feel sludge from the engine. Can I still revert to the factory 5w20/30. Kindly advise

Just get liqui moly engine flush.mix with old oil in engine and run for 3 mins ,drain and continue using your 20w50.When you buy another car you will know what to do as you have learnt your lesson.Your fellow palm oil crew will not come and see this now(Nigerian weather is hot gangs).

Bros please what about 5w40? My TSX recommends 5w30 but I couldn't find it during my first oil change. So I used the 5w-40 instead.

If its full synthetic which i think it is then no damage just that you lose better economy and lubrication.5w30 always available at my signature.buzz me anytime for it.

open the oil cover, where we fill in lubricant, use your finger to feel the inner of the cover, you'll see thick black oil or use your finger to feel inside the cylinder cover. If sludge is there, you'll know.

I used it as described on my engine 4 years ago and can personally tell you that its minimal if done as explained.Drain about a liter from the engine and mix then pour and run for 3 mins at idle speed.That was the procedure i used.

When did you do an oil change last, was there sludge(small black clumps) grease like in the oil and the oil filter?
How often do you change oil, 3 or 6 months or do you wait for law oil pressure warning?

2 months max. Car used within city and not regular. Doesn't get to 700miles. I don't wait for oil pressure light.

Most likely a cold-engine type sludge. lots of short trips. d deposits might not be that much hopefully. sludge doesn't form as easily as people think. Try midoda idea or you can contact gazuz for input.

Stick with ur w50....

My experience
I acquired a Nigerian used Toyota with 2ar engine. I suspected the previous owner was using 20w 50 on the car though the engine was steaming cool and the tail pipe clean, no brown or black stain. So I decided to use 5w30 because the odometer was 105k. After running the car for three weeks for about 300 miles, I noticed shortage of oil and the tail pipe is now black and sticky. I suspected oil burn. I'm thinking of upgrading the oil to 10w40 or I return to what the previous owner has been using.
What's your advice folks

USA Mobil and Castrol 5w30 extended Performance is available.. we are direct importers and always have in stock.. there are a few other sellers too on nairaland so you shouldn’t find it hard to find 5w30

Can this be right? Wouldn't the colour still be gold and when it is gold it would not create sludge?

For I thought sludge is created because of extended use of engine oil.

You can switch to synthetic anytime. It would gradually help remove any accumulated we engine sludge. There's no need for an engine flush.

Another advantage of using synthetic oil us that you can go for extended mileage before your next oil change. That 2-monthly change would be a waste of resources.
