Out of the entire 2.5 million job seekers that applied for different positions at the recently ended online recruitment exercise conducted by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps ( NSCDC), only 5,000 will be considered. The 5,000 that would eventually make it out of the labour market among the entire 2.5million applicants, are to be chosen from 1.5million applicants already screened for having required qualification for the positions they applied for , while the remaining 1million were screened out of the entire process for not meeting up with specifications stated for the jobs. Disclosures to this effect, were made recently by the Chairman ,Senate Committee on Interior, Senator Kashim Shetimma (APC Borno Central). Shettima who stated this during the 2020 budget defence session his committee had with the Minister of Interior , Rauf Aregbesola , said with the arrangement , it will be ratio 1-300 for the remaining 1.5million applicants. “The Board regulating the NSCDC told us that their initial plan was to offer 10,000 jobs to qualified young Nigerians but paucity of funds, made the number to be slashed to 5,000 , making ratio of those to be considered and left out , very, very wide. “Even the Nigeria immigration Service , planning recruitment exercise next year , is coming up with just 4,000 places to be filled as disclosed to this committee by the Comptroller General , Mohammed Babandede,” he said. According to him, with the very little spaces for employment in the public service, the way of Agriculture should be the way out in line with the federal government diversification programme. “But for the policy to be attractive and succeed , the issue of security challenges must be tackled. “The very reason why the Ministry of Interior should use security agencies under it to collaborate with the Police and the military , in getting rid of criminals in the land for people to feel free to go back to the farms and enjoy , enormous incentives ,already being provided by government,” he added. Aregbesola in his response, assured the committee members that though the resources made available for them to work with , are scarce but they wil make the best out it security wise, by squeezing water out of stone . https://www.blueprint.ng/recruitment-2-5m-job-seekers-groan-as-civil-defence-adopts-tight-measures-reduces-employment-opportunities/

/ 1million applicants screened out for not meeting basic requirements for the job? Go figure! Not when pastors keep goading people to apply because miracles do happen. It doesn't help that paid promoters will give testimonies that it worked for them. Poverty in Nigeria is by choice. Not when you can use N2000 Bible to convince people to take over your living expenses and they will gladly oblige. / 2 Likes |

Fweshspice: 1.So you want the government and the Civil Defence to emply 2.5million people, with zero budgetary provision for how they would be kitted out and paid? With no idea of what kind of jobs they would do under the NSCDC? 2. Must everybody work for government. Many of those 2.5million people have jobs. They just want a cushy civil service job so that they can chop. 3.You people cry for fuel subsidy, instead of allowing deregulation which while making petrol cost N300 and above (same as in Niger, Benin, Ghana and SIerra Leone0)....will provide lots fo new refinereis, and new jobs, and even help our power sector improve drastically...which means more jobs...and then you complain about lack of jobs. 4.You also refuse to pay DISCO bills on the grounds that they are exploiting you...meaning that DISCOS cannot pay for improvement for power...which means less jobs. 5.And you guys vote for PDP and APC....and refuse to give other parties a chance....meaning the same old same old runs us. And at the end of the day, you hail your preferred looter. Stop waiting for government job. Government, even in a sane society cannot employ everybody and their mother. 10 Likes |

Nigeria is facing security challenges and that is why Government need to increase the personal of Nigeria police and civil Defence personal. We suppose have 1/20% of Nigeria population as security man. I mean one out of 20 people suppose be security personal. If Government can do that, it will reduce unemployment, poverty and it will reduce security challenges. |

eTECTIV: Please stop talking what you don't know. 2.5million people applying for 5000 slots. What do you expect.? Can they take everyone?? Or have you heard of someone using one loaf of bread to feed 1million people?? Am sure that most of the 5000 were selected by merit..(of course some were selected by conncections....but even then, the number of people with connections would STILL be more than 5000!) 1 Like |

Thegoodone13: And they would do that by taking 2.5million people...without adequate funding for them. Guy, you people have to understand something. We are not a rich nation to begin with. Oil is at $59 per barrel, and we need it at $140 per barrel just so that we can stop taking loans. And to make matter worse, this government has its own share of looters after promising us change! Ok...let's employ 2.5million people....and then don't complain when things like fuel subsidy or power subsidy is removed to fund the unfiorms and weapons needed to equip these people. |

PoliticalWitch:I like your analysis but I will disagree with you in the area of fuel subsidy. If the federal government remove fuel subsidy now, it will cause inflation. If the price of fuel goes to 300 naira as you said, all the price of goods and services will increase too |
