Remember the story we broke about the Kwara's Mooro Bridge where people crawl before they can pass through the bridge? If you missed it, read it here. We have it on a good note that the Kwara State Government has begun immediate repair of the bridge since the news broke. According to the press release by the press sectary, Mansurat Amuda-Kannike, she said...

The Executive Governor of Kwara State Mallam Abdulrahman AbdulRazaq has directed the immediate rehabilitation of Moro-Bailey Bridge along Ilorin-Igbeti Federal road and the damaged portion on the Ilorin-Ogomosho old Federal road at OTTE respectively. Consequently, the Kwara State Road Maintenance Agency KWARMA has commenced repair work in the two areas.

Inspecting the repair works exercise, the Permanent Secretary, Kwara State Ministry of Works and Transport Dr Yusuf Garba Manjo expressed appreciation to the Executive Governor for approving funds for the repairs of the Moro-Bailey Bridge and the damaged portion at the Ilorin-Ogbomosho old Federal road at OTTE.

The Permanent Secretary thanked the Oloje Garage Motor Unions for their support for the closure of the Moro-Bailey Bridge to ensure repair work on the bridge and directed Officers of Kwara State Road Maintenance Agency (KWARMA) at the site to expedite action on the bridge repair work so that the bridge can be reopened for traffic on scheduled by Thursday 3rd October 2019.

Dr Manjo during his assessment visit to the site noted that the Kwara State Government intervened in the repair work of the Moro Bailey Bridge and the damaged portion on the Ilorin-Ogbomosho old Federal at OTTE in order to curb accidents and reduce hardship being faced by commuters plying these two roads.

He, therefore, enjoined KWARMA to carry out the quality job and also called on Federal Ministry Works and Housing to prevail on the contractor handling Moro/Ohan Bridges to return to the site in order facilitate timely completion of the two bridges.

Update: Some Kwara residents responded to our tweets where they clarified that this bridge has been fixed some weeks back and that motorists now use this bridge, we asked for pictures, they promised to get back, once we have the images, we will revert accordingly...

I pity Kwarians, this will not last. Instead of them to demolish this old bridge and build another one. they are doing remedial work.

THis type of work has been done more than 15 times on this same bridge.

I have mixed feelings about this

The idea of entrusting execution of the project to the citizens themselves is a really nice idea.

But a major construction project like this bridge is best left to the educated elites that came up with the idea in the first place.

This is a really dangerous adventure.

People will die if it backfires.

The story is stale and belated. The Kwara state government completed work on the bridge on October 4.
You can follow the link below to watch the video of when it was reopened. Although the road is a Federal road the Kwara state government led by Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq fixed it without demanding a refund from the Federal government.

Below is the news of when it was reopened:

Kwara Gov Completes Rehabilitation Of Moro-Bailey Bridge, Reopens It Tonight

Following the completion of the rehabilitation works on Moro-Bailey bridge by KWARMA, the Permanent Secretary Ministry of Works and Transport, Dr Yusuf Garba Manjo has reopened the Moro Bailey bridge for motorists plying Ilorin-Igbeti road.

During the reopening ceremony tonight, Dr Yusuf expressed appreciation to the Governor; Mallam Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq for swift approval of funds to KWARMA for the rehabilitation works.

Similarly, the leaders of the two Transport Unions at Oloje Garage also commended the Governor for his intervention in the repairs of the Moro-Bailey Bridge which they said has eased the pain of travelling that stretch of the road.

I passed through that bridge several times during my service year in Baruten local government and I can say with all sense of sincerity that both the federal and the state government are not serious about that road. why on Earth can't they construct a solid concrete bridge there...few years to this time, we will still share this story again.

as you can see it's a steel slab and it is modular. So if a unit fails, it can easily be replaced. So it's better to keep replacing damaged portion than rebuilding a new one, even the community can replace it if one or two fails
