If you're new to the world of mobile data, you may wonder what those letters and numbers mean on your phone's notification bar. Just what are GPRS, E, 3G, H, H+, LTE, and 4G G stands for GPRS and is the lowest standard, used is the GSM network (2G). Download Speed : 114 Kbit/second, Upload Speed : 20 Kbit/second. E is an extension of GPRS, it is called EDGE and it is correspondingly a little faster, but still uses the old GSM network (2G). Download Speed : 384 Kbit/second, Upload Speed : 60 Kbit/second. 3G, or UMTS and is the successor to the GSM network and faster. Download Speed : 7.2 Mbit/second, Upload Speed : 2 Mbit/second. H and H+ are standing for HSPA and HSPA+ (or called enhanced 3G). Both use the UMTS network, where H is faster than 3G and H+ is faster than H.
