Yes, They Were All Gentlemen (a Poem) by Davidandy(m): 11:44am On Nov 12, 2010
Politicians in Nigeria had been a problem to their respective states and constituencies by stealing money from the state
coffers to build mansions for their generations yet unborn. In spite of this, kill people who oppose them
in the quest for power and wealth. Find out how?

Yes they were all Gentlemen!

1. As we voted them in
for a better tomorrow
they went to their stewardships
with one thing in mind
to steal from our coffers
money meant for all
had been diverted to private purse
through invisible contracts and projects
which can only be heard
from their paid flutists, the media
but cannot be seen
by any living soul
yet with their fouled mouth
shout with one accord
we are the gentlemen.
2. Even in their offices
They lack reasoning
As they soiled their hands
By killing innocent souls
Who confront them
For repentance
They also kill their allies
For power, peace and protection
a scarce commodity
that cannot be found
among their kind;
being deceived by diviners
continue to commit evil
when they choose
to address themselves
saying, we are all gentlemen.
3. They have stacked our money
In foreign banks
As they go for medical trips
And through their cohorts
Leaving the poor to suffer
Sending their children abroad
in the best schools
while the masses die
in their numbers
in great penury
the youths leaders of tomorrow
being so hungry
had chose the easiest way
forming deadly gang
sponsored by our so-called leaders
as a security outfit
to carry their heinous crimes
unleashing terror to the society
that voted for them
no good roads and no light
neither fuel nor water
instead of schools
they built bunks
for drug addicts
no hospital and no drugs
to save life
they have imported weapons
but to destroy life
instead of companies
the built hotels
to promote crime
by patronizing whores,
ladies who need education
to better their lives
had become an eyesore
in that illegal trade
as they come in numbers
they die in singles
a sacrifice to appease their gods
a deed by an evil group
that chose to call themselves
“we are all gentlemen”.
4. With much furry
They argue and quarrel
In both houses
They fought and lobby
To get attention
Making the people think
They are fighting
For their welfare
When they are giving money
To develop their constituencies
Buy cloths and drinks
For their loyalists
And make merry
Putting the money
In their private purse
Or buy mansions in major cities
With most of the companies
Which the acquired
With the masses money
Through their privatization process
They employ the youths
And pay them peanuts
Making them slaves
in their home land
as the stay in their mansions,
giving commands
and addressed as chairman
by their supporters
who worship them
for their daily bread
they move about
with convoys and sirens
and security agents
to clear the way
as they rode in jeeps
to go to their offices
where they will see
and call themselves
the cursed name
they gave to themselves “Gentlemen”.
