It was HISTORY made on Thursday, 31/10/31 as the Ebonyi State Ministry of Information and State Orientation in Collaboration with its Parastatal, the Ebonyi State Broadcasting Corporation, EBBC, awarded some staff for their outstanding performances in their different areas of assignment.

The event which was held at the EBBC Premises, Nkaliki, was action and surprise packed.

The Award which was first of its kind was designed to appreciate those who are committed in the discharge of their duties.

In his address, the Initiatior and the Commissioner for Information and State Orientation, Mr Orji Uchenna Orji said the Award became necessary to stimulate hardwork among state government workers who have exhibited rare commitment in the discharge of their duties.

He expressed hope that the gesture would spur beneficiaries to advance their commitment to duties, as well as motivate others to put in their best.

Mr Orji used the opportunity to inform the public that his office had initiated capacity evaluation system in which staff of the ministry and information officers will be assessed monthly based on their productivity for the purpose of appreciating them in future.

‘’I want to say that with this, we are going to drive the mandate of the Ministry, and that is information dissemination and information management.

‘’What I have done is to say; that we will have training and re-training of all the PROs, all the information officers, including the ministry’s staff and all the parastatals from time to time.

‘’We train you, so that you know what you should do at any time, so that we will guard jealously all the necessary things that need to be guarded’’ Orji said.

In his remarks, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Information and State Orientation, Mr Ken Uhuo explained that the Award was a stimulant to hard work as it is an inculcation of social re-orientation to the public which is the core mandate of the ministry, stating that the twenty three {23} selected Awardees spred from the Parent Ministry of Information, EBBC, the State owned Newspapers and Publishing company as well as the government Printing Press.

‘’Before this time, core values used to be recognised in the Society, people who were recognised where known for the core values they had, either that they were honest or hardworking, people will them recognition for that. But these days, materialism and wealth has become the new source of recognition.

‘’And the State government is determined to change it’’ he said.

Also speaking, the Chairman of the occasion and the Special Assistant to the Governor, on SDGs, Mrs Ngozi Obichukwu appreciated the Commissioner, Mr Uchenna Orji and other members of the Ministry for initiating the Award, describing it as a call for more services on the side of the beneficiaries.

She enjoined the Public Relation officers and the Area Information officers to make themselves relevant at their areas of primary assignment and coverage, emphasising that they are the true sharpers of government policies through information management and dissemination.

She said: ‘The Communication media are the image makers of the State, and if they don’t blow the trumpet well, we will be wrongly talked about.

The Director General of the Ebonyi Broadcasting Corporation, Mr Timothy Nwachi while appreciating the beneficiaries of the Award said as part of its responsibilities EBBC has been able to promote programmes and policies of the State government.

On behalf of the beneficiaries, the Acting Director of Television Services, Mrs Bene Onwe underscored the developmental strides of the state governor as second to none, and commended the initiators of the Award for the recognition, and promised on behalf of other awardees to sustain their hard work.
