Adamawa Flood: Humanitarian Minister visits, distributes relief materials to victims

Blessing Bature, Abuja
Hajiya Sadiya Umar Farouq, Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development visited Adamawa and distributed relief materials to alleviate the sufferings of flood victims.

According to a statement from the Ministry on Friday in Abuja, Farouq on arrival paid a courtesy call on the Lamido of Adamawa, Alhaji Barkido Aliyu Mustapha,

She commiserated with him and the people of Fufore Local Government Area.

"Beyond the relief materials being provided to support the immediate needs of the victims, the Ministry will coordinate all relevant Federal Government stakeholders and the Adamawa State Government to ensure that risk reduction strategies are adopted.

"These will include training of first responders and ensuring they are prepared at all times and putting in place recovery processes and mechanisms that promote resilience," she said.

She then proceeded to Fufore town where she met with the District Head- Hakimin Fufore, Alhaji Ahmed Gidado and went on to distribute relief materials to the flood victims.

The Minister noted that while some floodings are as a result of natural factors like heavy rainfall and climate change, others are as a result of poor waste management, poor drainage and non compliance with town planning regulations.

"The impact of floods can be reduced if attention is paid to proper waste management, drainage systems and adherence to town planning regulations"

Other places visited include Jippu Jam, and Jimeta and Limawa in Yola North.

Humanitarian minister for the north.
It was all over the news that flood ravaged states of the south, including Ondo, Ogun and the likes but till now we've not gotten any relief materials as we speak.
