WWE Crown Jewel 2019 is the company’s latest special event from Saudi Arabia, and it’s pulling out all the stops with blockbuster matches like Brock Lesnar vs. Cain Velasquez, Tyson Fury vs. Braun Strowman, the first-ever women’s match to be held in the country and appearances from legends such as Ric Flair and Hulk Hogan.

As was the case with the very controversial Crown Jewel 2018 show, this year’s event hasn’t been without its fair share of criticisms as well. At least on the surface, the Crown Jewel card is star-studded, but the lackluster rivalry between Bray Wyatt and Seth Rollins and the over-reliance on part-timers–combined with the fact that this show is happening to begin with–has resulted in a lot of pessimism about this event. WWE is locked into a 10-year deal with Saudi Arabia that began in 2018, and Crown Jewel 2019 is following in the footsteps of Greatest Royal Rumble, Crown Jewel 2018 and Super Showdown as supposed Saudi Arabian “special events” that have underwhelmed both in terms of the build and the delivery.
