First, having a PhD in Islamic or Arabic studies doesn't confer one to be a good believer, we have non-muslims who do.

Secondly, the true form of Islam is clear, and doesn't preach terrorism nor excessiveness as opposed to what we see terrorist organizations do today.

Lastly, don't forget the man revealing all the excesses of Boko Haram is also a Muslim and he quotes the Qur'an to explain and counter their excesses.
