A week-old baby girl has been killed by her 8-year old sister and 6-year brother in Edo State.

Residents of Ofunwegbe Community in Ovia North-East Local Government of Edo State on Tuesday were shocked after a woman (their mother) raised an alarm that her children have killed their one-week-old sister.

An eye witness recalled that: The people initially felt it was just a joke, but they were shocked to discover the incident was true after the two children were caught and beaten. When questioned they confessed to have killed the little baby.

No one knows the reason behind the killing of the baby, could it be for ritual purposes?

We will find out soon, as they have been handed over to the Police for further investigation.

This is a clear case of jealousy, the kids were threatened that they have lost the affection and attention their mum used to give them before the coming of the new baby.

The whole story is inconclusive, as much as the age of the girl.
How can a girl who visibly portrays the hard condition she was brought up under, enter a precocious puberty, look so grown up and still be 8yrs old?


Caught in what sense? Does it mean the mum caught them while they were killing the baby and refused to stop them? Or they were caught hiding the dead body?

Then, was it intentional, a mistake or carelessness of their mother?
If the siblings of the dead kid were tagged perpetrators, then their mother or anyone else could be a suspect too.
It's all good they were already handed over to the police. Interrogation and investigation would happen on a neutral ground, where the kids could relay the true story without the fear or influence of people.

It's still safer for the family, the siblings were accused. Being juveniles, they shouldn't face any capital punishment.
