Being a student, you ought to to know some kinds of examinations conducted in Nigeria or in our tertiary institutions. The list of examination below will help you to study and examine the one you think you are capable of doing or writing to your competency.

What does the word Examination mean?
A formal written, spoken or practical test, especially at school or colleges to show performance or test of knowledge.
As you have fully comprehend the meaning of examination. The following below shows the types of examination conducted for entrance into tertiary institutions

Jamb

The Joint Admissions and Matriculations Board ( JAMB) is a Nigerian entrance
examination board for tertiary-level institutions. The board conducts entrance Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination for prospective undergraduates into Nigerian universities . The board is also charged with the responsibility to administer similar examinations for applicants to Nigerian public and private monotechnics, polytechnics, and colleges of educations. All of these candidates must have obtained the West Africa School Certificate, now West African Examinations Council, WAEC, or its equivalent, National Examination Council (Nigeria) , NECO.
This jamb examination is a determinant to student admission through their scores . mostly is usually 4 subject combination.


WAEC(wassce)

The West African Examinations Council ( WAEC ) is an examination board established by law to determine the examinations required in the public interest in the English-speaking West African countries, to conduct the examinations and to award certificates comparable to those of equivalent examining authorities internationally. Waec was established in 1952, the council has contributed to education in Anglophone countries in West Africa. ( Ghana ,
Nigeria , Sierra Leone , Liberia, and the Gambia ), with the number of examinations they have coordinated,

Waec council conducts four different categories of examinations namely:
international Examinations, National Examinations, Examinations conducted in collaboration with other examining bodies, and Examinations conducted on behalf of other examining bodies. The International exams are exam taken in the five countries with the WAEC ordinance. It consists of:
WASSCE (West African Senior School Certificate Examination):

WASSCE FOR PRIVATE CANDIDATES (FIRST SERIES) JANUARY–FEBRUARY

WASSCE FOR (SCHOOL CANDIDATES) MARCH - MAY

WASSCE FOR PRIVATE CANDIDATES (MAIN GCE) SEPTEMBER–OCTOBER



Wassce

The West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) is a type of standardized test in West Africa . It is administered by the West African Examinations Council (WAEC). It is only offered to candidates residing in Anglophone West African countries. The academic school-leaving qualification awarded upon successful completion of the exams is the West African Senior School Certificate (WASSCE).

WASSCE May/June is the Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) for school candidates. It is taken by final year students in
senior secondary schools. They wear their respective school uniforms. Always April-May and the results are available by August.

WASSCE Nov/Dec , also known as
General Certificate Examination (GCE) or WAEC GCE, is a private examination and uniforms are not required, results are usually out by December.



NECO

National Examinations Council, otherwise known as NECO, is a national examination body established by the Nigerian government to conduct examinations.

NECO conduct Three Examination bodies namely:
(Ssce)
The Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (SSCE) Internal is the examination conducted for candidates in their final year of Senior Secondary School with 76 subject endorse for the exam.

(Ncee)
The National Common Entrance Examination (NCEE) is for admission into Junior Secondary School (JSS 1) of Federal Government Unity Colleges. Only Final year pupils of Primary Schools are eligible to write the exam.

(Bece)
The Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) is the examination conducted for candidates in their final year of Junior Secondary School. It is used for transition from JSS 3 of the basic education class to the senior secondary school.


NABTEB

NABTEB ( National Business & Technical Examination Board ) is popularly known for her O-Level Exam but little or nothing is known about the NABTEB A-level exam. NABTEB conducts two A-level exams ANBC and ANTC respectively.

(ANBC & ANTC) can only be taken or sat for by candidates, who had earlier sat for and made their O’ Level (NABTEB) and their certificate is equivalent to OND , NCE , and others.


IJMB

Interim Joint Matriculation Board (ijmb) is an Advanced Level (A’level) 9-month programme being supervised, run and moderated by Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria and IJMB was setup to serve as an alternative method of gaining admission into a tertiary institution in Nigeria into 200 level via Direct Entry (D.E) form.

JUPEB

Joint Universities Preliminary Examinations Board, It is an Approved and certied Advanced level programme moderated by University Of Ilorin and also having coordinated body in various tertiary institutions and different study centres nationwide.
JUPEB certificate are used to secure admission into 200level in any Nigeria tertiary institution via JAMB.


UTME

The Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination ( UTME ) is a computer-based standardized examination for prospective undergraduates in Nigeria. It is designed to assess problem solving, critical thinking, knowledge of scientific concepts and principles significance of each subject taken.
Kudos, since May 17, 2014, all administrations of the exam have been computer-based.
