Border closed
Dangote set to start rice production.

Somehow, mans always works out things for himself. But before y'all start jumping and dangling your pricks, you should ask what happened to hus previous food production drives and if his promise to feed the nation is feasible. Low key, this government is helping him become our own Carlos Slim. If only he'd also enter into power generation so they can ban importation of generators. Major players won't want that though.

Nice one op... Let me add my own 2piece...
1 piece
2 piece
Nigerians are not worth by cognitive racketeering.. Y'all can choose to believe this economy suicide that Nigeria is attempting in the name of boarder closure and the hypocratic progenitor of such agenda's... Basically the boarder closure would be a great idea if only pres and his cronies had the integrity to see it thoroughly through.. But let's see how it goes they say the end justifies the means.. From my POV I see it doing more harm than good and meeting with a calamitous end.

Hmm, the article is not so much a watertight argument for why closing border is wrong by any measure but a sort of party political or party affiliated argument for why the ruling party of the day should not be smug or positively credit by the voting public for border closure. On a planet in which the values of most things are relative from the human perspective, the article in its mediocrity only succeeds in establishing this status quo. Put simply, it’s a little like a conservative politician or supporter indirectly critiquing a Liberal Party by pointing out the demerits of publicly funded health service versus a socialists doing the reveres. It is just a different point of view masquerading as Fact.

The border closure for me is an offshoots of institutional failure. We don't need to close the borders completely before we can regulate what is coming into our country. Why do we have customs, immigration n co along the border axis.

29th October, 2019.
Dinstinguished Senator Ahmed Lawan,
Presdient of the Senate,
Senate Chambers,
National Assembly complex,
Three Arms Zone,
Abuja.

Dear Sir,

URGENT REQUEST FOR REVIEW AND ADJUSTMENT OF THE 1999 CONSTITUTION OF THE FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF NIGERIA TO GRANT A TWO-YEAR PRESIDENTIAL TENURE EXTENSION FOR PRESIDENT MUHAMMADU BUHARI, GCFR.

May the holiday season end the present year on a cheerful note and make new way for a fresh and bright new Year. Today is good, for a better tomorrow, it is prerequisite and very imperative to call for a review and slight adjustment in the 1999 constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to set at ease and lay the first stone of a two- year Presidential tenure extension for President Muhammadu Buhari (GCFR). Guilty feelings have been terrorizing my conscience for years for not speaking out early for the good people of Nigeria. This call is very significant for building a Nation that works for all. I am appealing to the entire National Assembly, to regard highly and approve my solicitation for a number of reaons; one, those who said “economy does not obey military order.” Underrated the President and have no idea of his potentials and skills. President Buhari is a true and genuine Democrat who respects the rule of Law and currently running a government for all. President Buhari economic policies is in fact, without reasonable doubt, one of the first- rated economic policies in the World.
President Buhari unique and Dynamic Economic Policies are changing the Lives of Nigerians from negative to positive. The outstanding economic policies cannot be over emphasized. Two, President Buhari Anti corruption fight is huge, never seen before; President Buhari is fighting corruption from the radicle, fumigating the judiciary, decontaminating all government Parastatals and agencies across the Nation and including the Military. There can never be stable economy without fighting corruption at all levels. I believe by now, those who said Maina could not be arrested will be on their kneels asking for forgiveness from the Almighty. Three, the threat of insecurity and insurgency is another reason to extend the tenure of President Buhari as he is really making gargantuan progress against the insurgents especially the Boko haram terrorist organization that has been terrorizing the northern part of Nigeria. We cannot be making list of his anabasis and achievements for the sake of brevity. Four, Educational system, no doubt, the most successful in the history of Nigeria. Baba has demonstrated that Proper educational system is another means of fighting poverty, corruption and even insurgency. We will be talking to the sky if we should talk about the educational policies and the positive results of President Muhammadu buhari in the educational sector. Five, the Political ideaology of President Buhari has paved ways for ordinary Nigerians especially the youth who seek to contribute to the national development of the country. President buhari has made a level playing ground for the all eligible Nigerians to who scoop out to ameliorate some imperfections in our democracy.
Honestly speaking, President Muhamadu Buhari is broad minded and welcome new idea and has the quest for knowledge and loves Nigeria to the fullest. It is xenophobic to condemn this request of Presidential tenure extension.
I urge the President of the Senate, distinguished Senator Ahmed lawan and the Speaker of House of Representatives, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, other distinguished Senators and Honorable Members and the entire National Assembly to take this into account for consideration and approval without prejudice for the economic development of our dear Nation.

God bless Nigeria.

From that point of view of the article that argues border closure should not be viewed by government as victory but failure, I believe borders should remain as closed as possible until those failures that brought about the closure are tackled especially security.

You just wrote a lot of words without grasping the meat of the matter. You can as well be accused of pushing an alternate pov.
Now, these are the facts the writer laid bare.
1. The customs have failed.
2. Immigration has failed.
3. Border closure cannot be an economic development policy
4. Govt needs to hold people in positions to account more and stop pushing obvious system failures to the citizens
5. There are people who work and earn legitimate incomes using land border. Can stifle their source of income just because you want to force people towards a particular direction. Patriotism is not forced. Rather, it is a product of right leadership and a sense of national consciousness

I rarely do this...but i think i need say that the Op has not been fair with the Govt of the day. Has there been an infraction on ECOWAS provisions concerning inter-national trade agreements by Govts of the affected nations - YES
Does Nigeria have the rights to close its doors against such practices - YES
Have we been reaping dividends of the closure - YES (reduced rate of banditry, Investors on rice production are assured of huge ROI this year, etc)

The fact is the moment Nigerians just travel outside the shores of the country, we want to show the whole world we have something to tell of the place we travel to...if not, what does the OP know of any other place aside Canada?

Did you even check the name of the author my guess is that u didn't read the article, but from me you should read things in other to reason from what others are saying, you jump to conclusion with no understanding, but if PDP failed for 16yrs then every other government should fail as well, this pp were brought to power to right the wrong of PDP but just 4yrs we are seen the worst of it all, you knw the truth but you decided not tell it to Ur self. Not every one is an enemy of the state, some want things to be better, go and read how Putin transformed Russia. Even with a dictatorship mind set.

Too stupid to know that in the civilised world, borders are only closed when there's an emergency and not because of incompetent leadership.

When a country has thousands of customs and immigration officers, and yet they cannot stop contraband from entering the country, why should legitimate businesses who pay import duties be made to suffer because of bureaucratic incompetence?

Zombies are the most brainless people alive.
