As the Independent National Electoral Commission gears for the Bayelsa and Kogi states Governorship elections slated for November 16, Saturday, President Muhammadu Buhari has urged all electorates to exercise their franchises according to the stipulations of the law. He advises all candidates and voters to shun violence and other malpractices that are common in African politics as it is usually a do or die affairs in Africa. The President also encourage law enforcement officers on election duties to allow voters to vote and avoid the intimidation and harassment of electorates. He further encourages law enforcement officers to punish violators according to legal provisions.

In the words of the President, “I call on voters in Bayelsa and Kogi States to exercise their franchise in a peaceful and orderly manner and in line with the law in all situations.”

“Law enforcement officials must ensure that citizens are allowed to vote without harassment and intimidation and any attempt to steal or hijack ballots must be stopped using all legal means.”

“In all democratic elections, there are bound to be winners and losers and the elections in Bayelsa and Kogi will not be different.”

“All candidates should be ready to accept the outcomes and wherever they are dissatisfied, they should follow the due process of the law in seeking redress. There must not be a resort to self-help.”

The President concluded by wishing the people of Bayelsa and Kogi states a peaceful and violence free election on Saturday.
