Director CHRD, Prof. Smart Otu

While making presentation on Personal Health and Safety in the University, Deputy Director, Health Services, AE-FUNAI, Dr. Henry Aloh focused on necessary requirements for healthy living, advising staff on the need for good life as a necessity for efficient performance and job delivery. He pointed out habits that make for healthy living, such as snacking with healthy vegetables, avoiding sedentary lifestyles, drinking plenty of water and taking short walk intermittently during the day.

Dr. Aloh further advised staff to visit the medical centre, to seek the help of qualified Doctors available, rather than go to Patent Medicine and road side hawkers, who may have unqualified people and quacks. He concluded his lecture with the emphasis that good health is not all about the physical body but also includes good control of the state of mind and therefore admonished staff to desist from bearing grudges against one another, saying that such habit do not make for good state of mind and health. According to him, good control of your mind enhances peace within oneself, towards others, and the environment.

Major Mgbebu N. Onwe, delivering his lecture

Major Mgbebu N. Onwe (RTD), Chief Security Officer of the University, who spoke on “Crime Deterrent and Search Procedure in the University System”, described crime as any action that is penalized by the law, while deterrent according to him means something that is done to prevent crime and measures to instill fear and control over criminals. He highlighted the measures to deter crimes including access control mechanisms, creating barriers, identification, lighting, keeping security dogs, deploying security guards at strategic points, punishments, CCTV installation and simulations, searching techniques and checking, stating that if well executed and managed, the procedures are all effective measures that would effectively deter crimes and protect the lives of staff and students in the university.
