If the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) had expected that it will throw out Ocean Marine Services Limited (OMSL) and the Nigerian Navy out of a goldmine without a battle, recent events are proving them wrong as the operators of the Safe Anchorage Area (SAA) engage the ports authority in a fierce battle.

When the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) moved to end the operation of a Safe Anchorage Area operated by a private security firm in collaboration with the Nigerian Navy, little did it know that it had embarked on a tough battle. Even though the Authority expected some kind of trouble as an aftermath, it did not reckon with the swiftness and nature of the battle.

One can recall that the Managing Director of NPA, Hadiza Bala-Usman, after confirming the closure of the Safe Anchorage Area, had expressed worry that entrenched interests might fuel insecurity to give an impression that the Lagos anchorage was unsafe and that SAA had to stay.
