Frankly, I do not give a damn about Liberia. When I lived there, all I heard was gunshots. I will profess my love for America over that useless country any day. When I think of Liberia, all I picture are dead bodies thanks to Charles Taylor.
Another thing, I hardly ever bragged about living in America on nairaland. The last thread I made about the US was asking folks for advice on American citizenship since I was starting the process. I don’t know where you get the idea that I sit on here all day bragging about living in the good ole USA.

Today is Sunday my dear. All my work is done. I can now relax.

I dont post much in response to you but i do notice folks and what they tend to talk about.
And there goes the problem, if you didnt get a chance to live in the US would you still not give a damn about Liberia? truth is you're not much different from the nigerians here . . . they spend all their time badmouthing the African continent just because a white man pitied them with a passport. Sorry but you do know Charles Taylor was a stooge for the same America you profess to love? You do know that the reason Liberia is split into two bitter factions is because of the US right? Or you just love the US because its shiny and cute with no principles at all?

You think those dreams are unreachable?? I am up now, not sleeping. Writing has always been my passion. Almost every month I am writing new stories, attending creative writing workshops on campus and more. I have a wild imagination which always helps. One day you will be reading my stories to your children before bedtime. Never say never!!

I think the reason she likes America so much is because she gets to eat rotten turkey in a stress free environment, as opposed to Liberia where there are no turkeys. She is all about the White man's turkey!
Re: Whats For Thanksgiving? by Nobody: 4:20am On Nov 22, 2010
I'm not saying your goals are unreachable, just wondering if you've put a thought to economic viability of the line of work you are going into. you do know that those school loans have to be paid back no?
Re: Whats For Thanksgiving? by isalegan2: 4:20am On Nov 22, 2010
It's just a nice holiday cuz you get 2 days off. 4-day weekend and all. You don't have to celebrate like it's 1999 if you don't want to. To each his own.
Re: Whats For Thanksgiving? by Nobody: 4:22am On Nov 22, 2010
Most of them were quite poor and with no hope for the future back home so getting to America is like putting a starved child in a candy store all by himself.
Re: Whats For Thanksgiving? by SeanT21(f): 4:25am On Nov 22, 2010
Please, I wish you could have seen what I saw. Dead bodies laying everywhere, gunshots all through the day and the night, family members getting killed in your presence, bombs going off, etc. I am not gonna get into politics here. I do not care about Liberia because Liberia does not care about me. I will always consider America a home over Liberia. Home is where the heart is and the US is where mine is. Liberia will hold a special place in my heart but I am not forced to love Liberia just because its where I was born.
If I was not living in America, I still would not care about Liberia. If I was living in Ghana or Togo and enjoying these opportunities, I would profess my love for Ghana or Togo any day over Liberia.
Re: Whats For Thanksgiving? by Nobody: 4:28am On Nov 22, 2010
the unfortunate part is that America doesnt love you and if the republicans had their way we'd all be back cooling our heels in our individual jungles in Africa. Yes you saw ruin in Liberia and so? America started from there as well, if its citizens just up and quit to Germany were would you be today?

Republicans do not think that way. You sound like a Black American who thinks the world is out to get him. America has always been a country of immigrants and always will be. No one can lay claim to this country except Native Americans.
One day I might return and set up a business in Liberia but as for now, I am here planting the seeds for my future.

Well, TEACH ME THE RIGHT WAY BECAUSE I'M CONFUSED!!
Re: Whats For Thanksgiving? by Nobody: 5:01am On Nov 22, 2010
u're just 20 so all you have is a rosy picture of a country you love and are determined to turn a blind eye to its faults.
1. I'm not a black american who believes the world is out to get me . . . i believe a black man can succeed here with hardwork and i have never faced outright racism. I have no problems with it.
2. Most extreme rightwing republicans DO NOT BELIEVE black people or latinos should be in this country. Fact.
3. Your claim that america has always been a country of immigrants is simply the sop many of you new immigrants use to console yourselves. There is a difference between naturalised citizens like you and those who can trace their lineage back to the 1700s in this country. You are NOT the same.
4. Sorry, millions of whites do lay claim to this country. Ask them what they mean by "taking their country back".
Bottomline, you are merely a recipient of America's economic policy to recruit people to shore up the social security system. Enjoy the privileges and take advantage of the opportunities given to you. Misplaced patriotism makes no sense.

Eventhough I did not major in English, and I work as a cleaner in Lagos, I will do my best to educate you:
Lie is an intransitive verb (one that does not take an object), meaning "to recline." Its principal parts are lie (base form), lay (past tense), lain (past participal), and lying (present participle)
Lay is a transitive verb (one that takes an object), meaning "to put" or "to place." Its principal parts are lay (base form), laid (past tense), laid (past participle), and laying (present participle).
If you see something lying on the ground, it is just resting there, like those dead bodies you referred to; if you see something laying on the ground, it must be doing something else, such as laying eggs.
When you see dead bodies on the floor, they are lying there, not laying there
Hope that helps

You sound like you are an avid reader of stormfront. Nobody cares what some ignorant whites think. Like I said, America is a land of immigrants. We all came from somewhere, whether 50 thousand years ago or 10 years ago. The only Whites that lay claim to this country are ignorant rednecks. Educated Whites know damn well that Whites do not own this land. They raped the Native Americans off their land. Frankly, I could care less what some ignorant Whites think. I do not take their opinions seriously. I live my life and you should also. There are some people that think Hitler had the right idea? There are also some who think that the Jews do not deserve Israel? Who cares? The moral of the story is there is always some ignorant person out there with absurd opinions.

Sorry for whatever happened before.
Re: Whats For Thanksgiving? by Nobody: 5:23am On Nov 22, 2010
I've been to stormfront just once and that was over 4 yrs ago. No i'm just more aware of the fact that unlike many of you, a mere passport does not define my existence. For you, life would probably be a meaningless existence but for the grace of a US passport . . . that is probably why you cling so much to the nonsensical feel-good "we are all immigrants" claim. You'd be shocked to find out that the same educated whites will confidently tell you this land is theirs . . . its false to think they just assume its not theirs . . . you must have been listening to too much liberal theology infused with a strong dose of white guilt.

Huh, you are so sweet. No hard feelings, ok?.
Good luck with your life. Pls, enjoy your turkey. Nothing do you!
I enjoy internet fights, nothing personal ok?
And BTW, English and Education is fine. Just work hard and your dreams will definitely come true. I am rooting for you ok?

IMO, a white who claim that this land is theirs is not educated. Anyway, this debate should end here because we both see things from different perspective.

*Na wah oh*. . . . . .A simple thread just to felicitate & share ideas on food has been turned into something else.
NL has now really become a war front. . . .Too many unnecessary cat fights!
****Runs away*** Before the gunshots start flying again. . . .
