Is Cv and Resume the same?? I bet many of us will say yes!... well sometimes very little things matters, and you may never know. Little information like this is what gets you the job.

Quick story.

My boss shared a story of a recruitment project he handled for a very big firm (Name withheld). The interview process was about 3 stages and two candidates came top, they were just so perfect he thought. All selections process employed to eliminate one candidate was unsuccessful. Until one of the Head of HR checked their Cv again and asked. Is Resume and CV the same? One same yes, the other said No. They one that said No got the job.

The point is someone CV and Resume are used interchangeably but actually they are not the same and trust me recruiters use the slightest unnecessary things to select candidates.


Curriculum Vitae (CV) is Latin word which means (course of life) it is an in-depth document which describes the whole course of your career in full details and gives a information on your career progress. It is usually two or three pages longer but can be up to 5 pages if necessary. A Cv contains details about your education, professional career, publications, awards, honors and other achievements.


Resume is a French word meaning "To sum up" it is a short concise document used for job application inthe US and CANADA". The purpose of a resume is to provide recruiters with a brief overview of the candidates work history. It is usually targeted at a specific job and it is one or two pages long.

You can see one is brief and one is detailed.... so No CV and Resume are not the same.
