Boko haram have know to exploit the vulnerability in our borders in the past.. I know there are other route but thing will be a lot harder now with this border closure

How can FG close borders they don't have control on?

Federal Government only close the borders they control, they can't close the North East borders because they can't be there to enforce the law.
The Boko Haram terrorists drive their armored cars freely through the Border.

Stop deceiving yourself.

It is impossible to totally close your borders look at America even with a border wall they are still facing problems. Britain is surrounded by water and they are still facing problems with smuggling. The problem in Nigeria is illiteracy the Nigerian president is just chasing ghost what he is doing the Who black market he has pushed it on the ground which money cannot be accounted for. Benin Republic Togo they are still offloading ship loads of rice are the stores at the border are still selling rice how is it getting to Nigeria

That is what I'm saying, they r undermining d result of d border closure by still helping dem smuggle goods in. Buhari nephew in d house of reps was saying did morning dat d custom boss should b invited so dat he can explain to d house as he is a living witness bcus he was at d border yesterday around 1am and he saw how smuggling is bin carried out with impunity

and why cant they adopt same strategy they used for forex when they prohibited 41 items out of all imported items? Why cant they allow Tomatoes, Onions and Vegetables that are produces locally in Niger and Benin republic in while blocking rice, clothes, and other imported goods?

Buhari is doing it for his farmer brethren and he wont enforce partial border closure.

Selective border closure. It is easier for Nigeria to enforce laws like criminal laws, tax laws, Traffic laws, Terrorism laws and other ones on Southern and western culprits or suspects than in the North. In the North, when you are a bandit, terrorist, law breaker, traffic offender, you will be pardoned even paid millions for you to stop. However, in the south, no shaking, na jail straight.

This so called border closure will not be enforces in the north, same with other laws.

Buhari is doing it for his farmer brethren to sell their harvest profitably and he wont enforce partial border closure.

The government is not getting anything right.
Some people will always gain while others lose due to the government's action, there
is nothing special about this case.

An economy is not built by banning imports but by encouraging production.
The fact that commodities imported from thousands of miles away are cheaper
than locally-made ones should be enough to tell you what the real problem is.

The last time a country tries to force self-sufficiency, 30 million lives were lost.
Though I think this border ban is mere political propaganda, it will be relaxed when
it has served its purpose.

Imports can and is choking out local production in our case so i understand but why cant they adopt same strategy they used for Forex when they prohibited 41 items out of all imported items?

I completely agree with the quoted. Those neighbouring African countries are thieves. Several years ago I imported my personal car that I was using in Europe to Nigeria through Belgium. I personally drove the car to Belgo malienne's office in Belgium and I asked them how safe were my personal effects locked in the car. I will never forget their response. They told me they could only assure that the car would get to Nigeria intact but could not assure that removable parts and items in the book would get home safely. And true to their words, those neighbouring African countries where the ship berthed before getting to Lagos had removed every thing. My clothes, football, football shoes, original DVD, my electric home heater...every damn thing. The only things they did not touch were my books. I had more than 50 books or so; not one of them was missing. Not even one. And that was my main concern actually, so when I confirmed that the books were intact I was relieved.

Islie:

“It is, however, disturbing that some neighbouring countries circumvent the ECOWAS protocol on transit. For clarity, the ECOWAS protocol on transit demands that when a transit container berths at a seaport, the receiving country is mandated to escort same without tampering with the seal to the border of the destination country.

“Unfortunately, experience has shown that our neighbours do not comply with this protocol. Rather, they break the seals of containers at their ports and trans-load goods destined for Nigeria.”

So, you think people in Benin republic don't eat rice? And, of course, they ship rice to many other countries. Nigeria is just one.

It might interest you to note that in Benin, product price don't change for the worse all of a sudden like Nigeria. Product price actually do come down there.

I am not against your support for border closure but just wanted to say border closure doesn't include probably 10,000 illegal routes that are wide open.

How much rice does Benin republic eat, that would justify the tons of Rice being imported into Benin....if those Rice dont come into Nigeria again some major exporters to Benin wont bother doing business with them again...leaving the stage for the small fries..Then i actually heard from an ewa-agoyin seller who went to the village and said a bag of rice was going for 6k naira because rice is everywhere...so price is dictated by demand and supply, surplus leads to fall in price. What would come in through the 10000 illegal routes in a month is what an open borders will bring in in a day....and mind you those routes have always being in use even when the borders were open.....Why is there scarcity here or why are our neighbors begging if the illegal routes are really effective...

Boko Haram are in a very bad situation right now. They are either in or out. Can't be both anymore. If they're in, they'll be decimated by Nigerian forces. If they're out, they'll no longer be active in Nigeria. So either way, it's win-win for the country, and for Mr President.
