I hope BUA has a steady source for canes.
Factory without raw materials won't survive.
.

In replying you, BUA has over 70,000 hectare sugar plantation within the same sugar refinery estate. So raw material issue is solved for local production.

How do we spend as high as 300bn importing sugars annually when dangote produces?? What's wrong? Can anyone school me please?

Too much excuses for stealing money in every sector in this country sha.

All of the sugar currently consumed in nigeria is imported from brazil. All of the comppanys currently packaging sugar import bulk/raw sugar and only package it here. All of them are just starting to build sugar refinery cause according to

Nigerian sugar master plan they have to build plant and start local production before a sp[ecified period

The 35MW of Electricity caught my attention.

So you burn the useless part of the sugar cane plant to produce that much electricity.

Castles in the Air...

When you don't know how things work, you to Google. Ask Brazilians, the masters of sugarcane production how its done.

Lazy fingers, Google is your friend. Those numbers are incorrect. Online sources says 1 ton (i.e. 1,000 kg) of sugarcane yield 220 pounds (99.79 kg) of sugar. I added the amounts in kg.

That's just 10% yield. The yield will vary based on sugarcane variety and other factors.

This will be BUA's THIRD sugar refinery...
The Lagos and PH plants generate their own electricity.

Dangote's $450m sugar refinery in Niger State will include a 45MW captive power plant. These projects maximize the extended value chain in sugar production by using by-products for the production of fuel ethanol, animal feeds, in-house electricity (w/ surplus power generated by the plants supplied to the national grid).

Nigeria has regularly been among the world's leading sugar importers...
Local production and refining capacity is struggling to catch up, but there are several new projects.

Between BUA, Dangote and Olams...
There are refineries in Lagos, Rivers and projects in Niger, Taraba, Adamawa and Nasarawa states.

Until now, the refineries mostly refined imported raw sugar...
But under the Sugar Development Policy, new projects are backward-integrated (including plantation).

Is it $300 millions or Naira for sugar factory ? Please someone should clarify me please.
It must $300m not#300m If you talking of a sugar Mill.It is mighty gamut of investment and monstrous array of large machines and of course big farms that are completely mechanised, You need to see a sugar Mill then you will appreciate the courage of our Nigerian investors.

14000tons sugarcane per day means about 1400tons sugar per day.Note 200000tons sugar per Year is the installed capacity. The OP was not careful in his writing. We in the industry can easily understand the errors and mispresentation.you raised.Fact 14000tonnes cane per equals 1400tonnes sugar per day While 200000tonnes sugar is annual production target hope this settles the pussle.

what is wrong with this one? How are your assertions different from what i pointed out? A logical person has already pointed out the error in the OP's post. I made my comments cos i know the figures are not correct, but you are here looking for who to drag down to your level. Can one even hold a logical conversation online these days? Next time, read again before jumping at people.

This my friend is the right question to ask. Hopefully this would have some positive effect on the value chain for home grown sugar cane in the long run.

BUA could;
1) Lease hectares of land and grow sugar cane en masse

2) Foster backward linkage with farmers and other small to medium scale farms to augment existing supply.

3) In the long run, consider production of ethanol as biofuel.

Overall ripple effects... more jobs and forex savings.

Anyways, time will tell.

The project is sitting on a 20,000 hectare of sugar cane plantation
