Afrobeat or Afrofunk was started in Ghana in 1920. Afrobeat of Afrofunk was introduced in Nigeria by Funkees with song recorded in Ghana in 1970 when Fela was still in USA chasing after a widow's skirt. Fela's first record was even recorded in Congo via Paris, France. Fela made three name changes for his band. From Kola Lubitos to Nigeria-70 and finally Afro-70.

The bolded is very arguable statement. Fela could have made Afrobeat or Afrofunk popular in Nigeria due to his political activism in the country however the cause of popularity of Afrobeat or Afrofunk was set before he arrived on the scene.

Rightly said.., but Fela never started activism through his music right away! The popularity of afrobeat and its like would never have gotten to its present state without Fela’s solo contributions!
