The Vice- Chancellor, Professor Chinedum Nwajiuba, represented by Deputy Vice -Chancellor (Academic), Prof. Sunday Elom, in the company of Deputy Vice – Chancellor, Administration, Prof. Philip Omoke and other Officers of Alex Ekwueme Federal University, Ndufu- Alike, Ebonyi State, on Wednesday 27th November, 2019, at the Vice- Chancellor’s Conference Room, received members of the National Park Service Governing Board, who paid courtesy call on the Vice- Chancellor, as part of the programme of events for 3rd Meeting of the Governing Board, due to commence at Abakaliki, Ebonyi State at same date, November 27, 2019.

Prof.Elom warmly welcomed the guests on behalf of VC, who was out of the country on official assignment, stating that the University had benefited from pilot programmes of the Federal Government of Nigeria, such as the Solar Energy that has given 24hrs Clean Power Supply to the University. He added that the Green Initiative, a brain child of the VC, Prof Chinedum Nwajiuba has encouraged planting of trees in the University to achieve his vision of Campus in a Garden.

In his speech, Ibrahim Goni, Conservator General, on behalf of NPSGB, Stated that, Abakaliki was chosen as venue for the 3rd Governing Board Meeting and since VC, AE-FUNAI, Prof. Chinedum Nwajiuba,is a member, the Board decided to visit and congratulate him for his good works in the University. He emphasized that it is only in the South- East that National Park is not found and that it was why Abakaliki was chosen, so that deliberations could be made on how to establish a National park in the South East, Nigeria. He thanked the University for the Warm Reception given to them.

Dr. Muhtari Aminu Kano, the Director General, National Conservation Foundation, who earlier introduced members of the visiting team, stated that they chose to visit the University in recognition of the landmark achievements of the present administration in the University and wished to identify with its success story.Dr Aminu Kano acknowledged the works of the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Chinedum Nwajiuba, stating that as an international environmentalist, he has done a lot on climate change in Nigeria. He iterated that the works of the Vice-Chancellor are making the University a model for good environmental stewardship, not just among Nigerian Tertiary Institutions but across Africa. He further stated that each of them present for the meeting represents a Ministry, Agency or N.G.O and were looking forward to collaborating with the University, to further advance the environmental message, not just in the South- East but across Nigeria and Africa.

Prof. Sunday Elom at the end thanked the Members of the National Park Service Governing Board, for their visit. The visitors were taken round the campus for sightseeing. Among places visited were the Solar Plant, trees and gardens of AE-FUNAI Campus Green Initiative, good forest and some new structures initiated and completed by VC, Prof. Nwajiuba administration.
