Running background checks is standard HR procedure during recruitment process and that includes looking up the candidate on every possible channel. You need to be careful about whatever you post on social media as it could come under scrutiny in the nearest future.

There's a reason why he's the CEO and can choose to do whatever he wants as he's a stakeholder at the company and maybe that's part of the work culture.

It's just that the mentality is different in the western world when it comes to looks and your private life. Go on Instagram and see ladies who are doctors, professors or even soldiers posting work pics and also posting really revealing pics.

Nigeria is a different place, and Nigerians seeking employment should realize it. We reward certain behaviours that has nothing to do with productivity. They would rather employ the churchy-looking person who is mediocre at the job than employ the genius applicant who has a tattoo. It's one reason many Nigerian companies never become world class.

I understand why you'd think this way - I used to, too. Many (all over the world) think inside the righteous little boxes created by culture and religion and would swear that these are the basis for morality.

Just so you know, your own ancestors likely made some sort of ink (and white paint) tattoos on their bodies (albeit temporary) even before the white man came to exploit Africa. They also likely permanently mutilated their faces and called it tribal marks.

Also note that some past presidents of the US, like Roosevelt are said to have had tattoos. The current prime Minister of Canada Trudeau has a tattoo. I guess the government house is a night club house?

I don't even want to mention the many CEOs today that spot them. You (without tattoos) wouldn't be allowed anywhere near where someone like David Beckham would easily enter. Yet he's the one with the tattoo in a world where there is some 'perception' against his kind.

I don't have a tattoo because I don't like it, but it is incredible stupidity that would make anyone decide that the person without a tattoo would be a more productive employee just because the other person has a tattoo.

Same with the perception that a lady who shows some cleavage (or other skin) on her social media page would definitely make a bad employee. We focus on the wrong things in this country and the mediocre Nigeria we now have is the result.
