Abia Gov's task NAPPS on Standard of Education

The wife of the governor, Her Excellency, Chief (Mrs.) Mercy Odochi Orji has tasked National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools (NAPPS) to form a strong alliance with relevant governmental agencies in fighting the menace of dwindling standard of education in the country.

Chief (Mrs.) Orji stated that NAPPS has great role to play in ensuring that the education sector regain its lost glory by reversing the falling standard and the propondence of special examinations centre which does not encourage hardwork and excellence for the sake of our future leaders.

Speaking in her office after receiving an “Excellent Leadership Award” from the association as part of the sixth annual convention/award ceremony in Enugu, Chief (Mrs.) Orji said that the scourge of the dwindling standard of education and special exams centres does not augur well for the development of the country and time has come for a concerted efforts by all the stakeholders for this crusade to achieve meaningful result.

She stated that since education remained the best investment parents bequeathed to their children, concerted efforts must be made to ensure that quality and qualitative education are provided under a conducive environment to guarantee their future.

Chief (Mrs.) Orji thanked the association for the honour done her and assured that she would not relent in the complimentary governance role and humanitarian empowerment programmes that have imparted positively on the lives of the people of the state.

Earlier while presenting the award, the state chairman of the association, Mazi Enyinnaya Harbor said that Her Excellency was singled out for the award for among those who have contributed to the upliftment of education through her pet project- Hannah-May Foundation and the Family Empowerment programee with skills acquisition centre as its focal point.

Mazi Harbor stated that Her Excellency has distinguished herself in leadership and in uplifting the living standard of the people through numerous programme she has initiated and which have impacted on various aspects of human and state lives.

In a related development, the girl’s guide of the Umuahia Diocesan Anglican Church has also bestowed an award of “Great Mother of Honour” on Chief (Mrs.) Orji for uplifting the horn of womanhood and for representing the womenfolk positively in governance and other endeavours.

Handing over the award she received on her behalf, the Former Commissioner for Education, Dr. (Mrs.) Rose Ekeleme said that the guide recognised spiritual, economic and political programmes of Her Excellency which have made her the Deborah and Dorcas of our time.

Dr. (Mrs) Ekeleme said the visionary and purposeful leadership and mentoring-ship of Her Excellency on young women have made her the toast of young girls desiring to impact positively on their society
