This was made known to the world by Nigeria’s Minister of Information and Culture on Monday during an assessment tour of the Nigerian side of the border with Niger Republic in Magama Jibia, Katsina State.

The minister said since the Nigerian Federal Government closed its border with Benin and Niger Republics since August, that the Nigerian Custom has been generating a total revenue of #8 billion on a daily basis.

Mohammed said the figure was over 30 per cent increase in revenue, since the launch of Exercise Swift Response on August 20, 2019 to secure Nigeria’s maritime and land borders.

He also noted that before the closure, the borders contributed nothing to the revenue as the Nigeria Custom Service was recording about N4.5 billion daily.

Other dignitaries on this tour were Minister of Industries, Trade and Investments, Hajia Maryam Katagum, and Minister of State for Budget and National Planning, Clement Agba.

They have been telling us how that action was a master stroke and a cure all to our problems as a nation but the reality on the ground says otherwise

A select group of elites are benefitting massively from this border closure...

Aside the economic gains being recorded because of the borders closure, security has also improve drastically. The porous nature of our borders leads to the proliferation of small arms and lite weapons complete with unrestricted trans - border inflow of illegal immigrants.

And we're still going for more loans, what are they using this funds generated for?.The more you look the less you see.
