The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) recorded a total of 6 deceased persons and 24 injured victims in a series of road crashes that occurred along the Bauchi-Jos road in 4 days.

This was confirmed by the FRSC Public Relations Officer in Bauchi State, Rilwan Suleiman, in a statement made available to the press.

Information contained in the statement show that the first accident which happened on December, 1 at about 1:23 pm around Rijiyar Malam, was a collision between a Volkswagen Golf 2 numbered LGT 961 TE and a Toyota vehicle of the Gombe State Government numbered 10B-31GM. A total of 24 passengers were in both vehicles.

Another road crash was recorded at 11:15 am around Takanda Giwa on the same day. Vehicles involved were a Bajaj motorcycle and a Vectra. A total of 2 persons were involved.

Speaking further, Suleiman disclosed that, among the 24 persons involved in the first accident, there were 9 women, 9 men, 2 little girls and 4 little boys. Victims were conveyed to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Teaching Hospital in Bauchi.

“The accident was caused by loss of control. The tire of the Golf pulled out on motion and the driver lost control and the vehicle had a head-on collision with the Gombe Line bus. As a result, five people were killed and 19 sustained varying degrees of injury.”

According to the PRO, 2 persons were involved in the second accident. 1 person died while the other survived with injuries. It involved a Vectra Opel vehicle numbered BLG 798 AA. The victim was rushed to the Alumma Clinic in the state.

Suleiman stated that the third accident, a lone crash, happened on December 2 at 9:00 am around Tashan Maikudi, involving 2 persons driving a Golf 3 wagon numbered BUU 856 TQ. He attributed the cause of the accident to over speeding. The driver lost control after one of the car tires blew out. Both the male and female occupants survived with injuries, and were taken to the hospital.
