Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been assured by the Glazer family that they are fully behind him at Manchester United.

The United manager has had to quell speculation about his future particularly with Mauricio Pochettino available following his sacking by Tottenham and a run of below par performances in November.

United have maintained Solskjaer's position is safe and they have patience for his project, however, it is understood Joel Glazer spoke to Solskjaer in person to underline the owners' belief in his plans for the club and to re-iterate he had their full support going forward.

United have responded with wins over Tottenham and Manchester City to propel themselves into fifth place and are back in contention for a Champions League place.

The Glazers recognise that Solskjaer needs time to rebuild a squad the way he wants it while key players such as Paul Pogba are still to return to play a part.

Executive chairman Ed Woodward is determined to bring in better players for the first team with two new midfielders and a striker targeted.

Atletico Madrid's Saul Niguez remains one ambitious option while United are confident of attracting Erling Braut Haaland from Red Bull Salzburg, though both are more realistic for the summer.

United also held an interest in Ajax midfielder Donny van de Beek but he is poised to join Real Madrid at the end of the season.
