Napoli Appoint Gennaro Gattuso As New Head Coach After Sacking Ancelloti by ogbiwa: 6:44am On Dec 12, 2019
Napoli have appointed Gennaro Gattuso as the Italian club's new head coach following the dismissal of Carlo Ancelotti on Tuesday.

Ancelotti was sacked just hours after taking Napoli into the Champions League last 16 with a 4-0 win over Genk.

Gattuso, 41, previously managed AC Milan but left the Serie A club at the end of last season.

"We need to work hard, win back points and come through this tricky period," said Gattuso.

"The aim is to recoup points and get back into the Champions League positions."

Napoli are seventh in Serie A, eight points off the top four.

Gattuso played under Ancelotti at AC Milan and said: "He is like a father to me. He's always been close to me and supported me. He's won it all and I still have a lot to prove."

Napoli has not really put up any stiff competition for the 2 major title contenders this season.

How come no one is going for Luis Enrique? Abi he no be good coach?

This is funny, someone that just qualify you to a round of 16 getting the boot (a top manager of Ancelotti for that matter). On a normal day, this would have been the other way round, I guess he was sacked because of their domestic league standing.

Well, United has dropped the ball, so, everyone is now toeing the path of young, keen, tho inexperienced over legends...

I believe Napoli considered what United went through, and are still going through with a greenhorn as coach... Difference here is that the Italian side has a far more experienced team of players.

Anyway, they are more or less out of the title chase, so they should be focused on rebuilding... But, Pochettino would have been a better option.
