If we don't begin to like this country, we will keep fooling ourselves.

How can the train management not know how much it generates every month?

Now, they are not paying back the loan borrowed to construct the track and procure the train. Instead, the government is adding more money to take care of overheads.

Nigeria appears to me like a country that is destined to fail no matter who the leader is.

Transcorp Hotel Abuja Bans Lodging or Serving Female Customers Not Accompanied By A Man

Foremost Human Rights Activist, Prof. Chidi Odinkalu, has criticized Transcorp Hilton Abuja for engaging in practices and issuing policies which according to him are discriminatory and against the law.
The erudite scholar voiced this stance while narrating an incident in which his sister, Ler Jonathan, was restricted from sitting at the bar for not being accompanied by a man.
Narrating the incident, he said:
“Yesterday evening on Human Rights Day, of all days, my sister Ler Jonathan goes into a bar on the ground floor of Hilton Abuja at the end of a long day of travel, settles in to request modest refreshing. She also has a business to transact; this is at the Lobby Bar. So, she calls the attention of a waitress for a menu. The waitress approaches and quietly disqualifies her from service. According to this waitress, “company policy” of Hilton Abuja precludes her from serving females who are unaccompanied by a man. The waitress then goes away and returns thereafter bearing her supervisor who affirms her. At this, Ler Jonathan asks to speak to the duty manager, who confirmed that it was Hilton Abuja’s policy indeed not to serve women who are unaccompanied by men.”

If truly the rail road is being sponsored by the Chinese government, then they should run it for some years so as to get their funds back, and I believe freight will pay all the bills.

I would never endorse nuclear power for Nigeria, we're absolutely not mature for it. Have you seen the simplest infrastructures we've raised?
Seriously, endorsing nuclear power for Nigeria is nauseating wokeness, the West is gradually decommissioning those time bombs.

Seriously unrealistic analysis. Most of these types of projects around the world are not profitable. They are mostly subsidized bu the govt, the London train systems, the Marta train systems in Atlanta are not profitable and they have been in existence for years.
Regarding cost overruns, this is also very normal. I remember the Los Angeles's underground system has been under construction for decades and the cost has gone through the roof.

Mistakes are bound to be made.in such huge projects and it's ok to point them out but to expect the system to start making profit anytime soon is day dreaming.
The best they can do is too make as much as possible from their operations and allow the govt to subsidize the rest.
If you think Emirates and Dubai train are profitable operations then you are living in lala land. Emirates is heavily subsidized by the UAE govt, that's why Delta stopped flying to Dubai because they can't compete.

Nigerians needs to have a mindset of paying way more taxes to subsidize these kinds of facilities if they truly want to live like those in the western world.

The question is: how do we repay the loan borrowed..

You can see govt isn't capable of running a profitable railway system.

Eventually the trains would start breaking down down and money generated wouldn't be enough to buy another one

That would take us to square one, only this time worse because now we have a huge loan with an accelerating interest on our neck.

Add to it the fact that we are already $44 billion in debt and the govt is seriously pushing for more loan with a senate that licks after the ass of the president.

Any discerning person knows we are in trouble. What we await now is for another major drop in oil price, then we'll see the other side of China

They problem is good services, Nigeria and no sane person in the world would complain for good services. Provide good services and people would gladly pay.

All these subsidy propaganda are bullshit!

Better idea. As far as I am concerned the NRC will just becone anorher NNPC and the rail system will eventually becone like the petroleum production system, an oasis of corruption, nepotism and racketeering. Very soon the Chinese will be bounced and phantom contracts given to so called 'friends of government' to maintain rail lines and rolling stock. Yet another cash cow.

The best model will have been a BOT system to not only enable them ROI asap but also to tech transfer and create a proper structure and work ethic before handing over to the dreaded blackest of black men.

Seriously i think some people need to have their heads examined. There's no rail - complaints. Now, world class rail services are being provided - still complaints. Imagine, some selfish people are even saying the thing should be handed over to them to run to make outrageous profit at the expense of the ordinary people - thieves, they should go and build their own rail if they are truly private sector!

Its only in Nigeria you will bring things that have worked in other countries successfully you will see k leg.
Once you have morons, eg Ameachi, civil servants that have never worked in the private sector, people that are government pikin ie people that entered civil service from a young age eg Soldiers, politicians, civil servants that government paid them salaries, bought upto their pants. Such people do not understand the basis of any business ie you have 10k today and turn it to 15k tomorrow. Theirs is just to chop and squander. They will build train tracks to unviable places for political and personal gains whereas the proper person eg Peter Obi will consider the viable routes first because he knows he has to generate profit to pay the Chinese loans first!
Now we are back to incompetence by this regime. Trains are making losses and government has to pay their salaries and maintainance. Haba, who will service the loans?

Is it dat there was no cost-benefit analysis when the rails were being built?
Even ordinary people who build houses for rent do the cost analysis.
It seems as if the whole idea of the rails then was just a political gimmick and not a well thought out economic plan

You need to change ur sense of reasoning. If Henry ford thought like dis, the world would still be driving the T-model. There's nothing wrong with pointing out perceived weaknesses in a system, it's too makes it better as no system can be entirely perfect. If you're averse to criticism, then you're averse to growth as well
