Road Traffic Accidents and How to Avoid it. Everyday, thousands of road traffic accidents occur in the country. There are atleast 20-25 cases of road traffic accidents recorded in a day within the country of which 20-25 people die as a result of these road accidents. As a matter of fact, 70-80% of these road traffic accidents are preventable and mostly occur out of carelessness. Most of these road traffic accidents are mostly fatal, some people die instantly, few are lucky to survive with serious life threatening injuries while 1-5% survive without any injury.

Below, we’ve outlined the top causes of these road traffic accidents and how to prevent them.

Over Speeding: In every state/country, there are speed limits which every vehicle driver should adhere to. It is the most common cause of road accidents. Driving beyond the speed limit is a “must-do” practice amongst many road users. Drivers who speed can end up colliding with another vehicle, hit a pedestrian or when the brake is applied forcefully, the vehicle may summersault which could be fatal.

Distraction While Driving: Distractions while driving is the second leading cause of road traffic accidents. Drivers are distracted while driving for some reasons. These reasons are; operating a cellphone while driving, eating and drinking while driving, discussions with a passenger which may lead the driver to look away.

Rain: It’s surprising how rain is among the causes of road traffic accidents. When it rains or raining, cars are likely to loose their grip on the road which can make the care to summersault or tumble. This is as a result of poor maintenance of the vehicle such as tires that don’t have enough grip or wornout.

Drunk Driving: This is another major cause of road accident. When these drivers get drunk, they loose focus on the road and are less likely to concentrate. This is easily preventable if you take little or no alcoholic drink before hitting the road.

Driving Recklessly: Accidents as a result of reckless driving is infact the most preventable of them all. This includes; ignoring road signs, overtaking at bent roads, not navigating when you are about to turn.

Poor Maintenance of Vehicle: Lots of drivers fail to check their vehicles before using it, as a result to, accidents like brake failure, overheating and tire explosion occurs. This can be prevented when you inspect your car constantly and call for maintainance service when it’s due.

Conclusion: We are all responsible for every road mishap because these are preventable accidents if we adhere to common rule and road guidance. Passengers should always caution the drivers if the driver is driving recklessly. Step out of the car if the driver refuses to listen. Ensure your driver is alert at every point in time and ensure he doesn’t exceed his speed limits.
