National Universities Commission Resource Verification Teams for new postgraduate and undergraduate programmes in the Faculties of Humanities, Management and Social Sciences, Science and Law of the Alex Ekwueme Federal University Ndufu-Alike, Ebonyi State. They were at the University for Resource Verification Exercise, which lasted from Tuesday 10th December till Friday 13th December, 2019, when the last panel exited. The team of the various panels was received at University Senate Chamber by Prof. Sunday Elom, on behalf of the Vice- Chancellor, Prof. Chinedum Nwajiuba, who was outside the State on official assignment.

Prof. Chukwunonso Ejike, Director, Academic Planning, introduced the leaders of each of the panels, who then introduced other panel members. The Resource Verification Team had highly esteemed Professors, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) and NUC Representatives.

In his welcome speech, Professor Elom wished the team well as they engaged in the assessment of the readiness of the University to embark on the new Programmes, and promised them full cooperation of University Management.

Prof. Fidelma Ukeje, responded on behalf of NUC Verification Team, thanking the Vice Chancellor for the warm reception and generosity. She implored the University Management to give the team all necessary assistance to facilitate their work.

While presenting the exit report for Law, at the Vice-Chancellor’s Conference Room, Prof. Nlerum Okogbule, leader of the panel for Law commended the efforts beingmade by the University to set up a Law programme. He stated that what was seen on ground for the programme showed high commitment for proper take-off. He pointed out that the verification exercise is to see how equipped the University is to carry on with the programme and recommend ways of improvement.

Making presentation on behalf of Igbo and French Languages Panel, Prof. Ukeje congratulated the University Management for what they saw on ground, for the smooth take-off of the programmes. She advised that in mounting the programmes, there is need to follow the NUC guidelines.

Professor Abiodun Adebayo and David Pam Yakubu, who presented exit reports for Biochemistry and Biotechnology postgraduate programmes, respectively, appreciated the Management for the availability of qualified staff and staff offices for Biotechnology and Biochemistry, and recommended areas of improvement. Professor Barnabas Kwaha and Prof. Ibe, presented reports for postgraduate programmes in Physics and Geophysics and made special recommendations for the upgrade of the programmes to world class standards.

Prof. S. Banjoko who presented report for Accountancy and Business Administration, thanked the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Chinedum Nwajiuba specially for the hospitality they were given, emphasizing that the team has a mandate to ensure that the programmes adhere fully to NUC standards and benchmarks.

While receiving the exit report for Physics and Geophysics, on return from his official trip, the VC, Prof. Nwajiuba noted that the comments and recommendations of the verification team will be respected and implemented. He promised that the University will do all it takes to keep improving the system. He further stated that at present, in terms of staff development, AE-FUNAI is among the best in Nigeria and that about 41 staff are currently undertaking training in Europe.
