i might not like buhari or any of our past leaders but the honest truth is that for us in the oil and gas, this is one of the best decision by these administration. selling those assets that will be bought by the same cronies with yeye oyinbos fronting for them wont help us in the long run and it will automatically reduce what we receive in the future, so this is a good decision.i salute the courage of the president to do these reversal. 1 Like 1 Share |

Nigeria is going to.make the same money from the new deep offshore and inland basin act 2019 ( $500m for 2019 and $1.4 bn yearly subsequently) so why sell the stakes in the JVs?. Buhari is one of the most patriotic Nigerian Presidents ever. I say this with high sense of responsibility. Nigeria also seems to have some healthier revenue projections from VAT and possibly income tax so again why sell? 1 Like 1 Share |

ProsperChild: I am not sure this is a good idea. The global push towards a carbon free world makes fossil fuels a seriously wasting asset. In a saner clime, the JV assets would be sold of to be reinvested in other asset classes. In Nigeria however large sums of money cN disappear or be eaten by "rats" and "snakes" So in a compromise, sell down the JV and transfer funds to the Sovereign Wealth fund for investment in Ports ( including asset terminals, a redesigned public school system and then in high alpha foreign assets to hedge currency risk. This is somewhat simplistic. But much better than falling crude prices, snakes and rats. 1 Like |

IMASTEX: Nigeria has a bright future. The politicians may be corrupt, but corruption is in every country. It's time the people rise and regain control of the country and prevent the sale of national assets to the highest bidders. |

nairalee: To your comments: 1. He doesn't believe in paying subsidy to individuals and their companies. 2. Whether the wailers will agree or not the Boko Boys have been defeated. It is normal to keep on having ambushes once in a while but sooner than later they will be no more. 3. For your information the North comprises nineteen states with a land of almost two and a half the size of the South and most populous. 4. Nigerians are responsible for the office of the first lady. When Buhari scrapped the office of the first lady, the state government could have followed suit but they refused to and Nigerians such as to you could not raised your voice then as you are doing now. 5. On the issue of border closure, it was closed to goods and not humans. |

BreconHills:It is not a bad idea to sell the stakes in the joint venture with oil majors down to 40% if the proceeds are going to be used judiciously and reinvested to diversify the economy. However, as Nigerians we know our leaders are rats and snakes-the second the billions are received within 24 hours the money will disappear to tax havens with the help of foreign collaborators to British Virgin Islands,Seychelles,Panama,Cayman Islands and other tax havens-Nigeria leaders have PHD in money laundering. Nigeria will now be on the road the bankruptcy, because there will be future shortfall in revenue because we will be receiving 15% less in revenue moving forward when the 55% stake we currently have is reduced to 40%. And the only beneficiaries will be the corrupt advisors that will buy the stakes with the aid foreign collaborators. 1 Like |

Nigerian can defend anything sha expectially the youth. You hear or read some comments and you are 'like what the hell is this one talking about... Sometimes i wonder if we are breeding stupidity in this country. Some youths that called themselves youth leaders from ethnic nationalities when to brekete family (human right radio) the other day go disgrace their unborn generation. One of them made a honest submission which many may have overlooked. He said "everything is about interest". Literally saying, Pinnick and NFF has their interest at heart and they our energetic and vibrant youth leader has a mandate to defend Pinnick and NFF. I just imagine where being divided based on "interest" will take us in this country. Merry Christmas! |
