Court documents state a man claimed to be God while attacking a victim Friday.

Police said shortly before 11 p.m., Carl Stroud saw a male outside his apartment building who he believed was on drugs.

Stroud claimed he was God and wanted to heal the victim, according to police. He attempted to heal the victim by "striking him with his scepter or steel rod," according to court documents.

The victim was unconscious and excessively bleeding from his head. First responders took the victim to Mercy Medical Center, where medical professionals said he had a fractured skull.

Stroud has been charged with willful injury and assault. He's being held at the Polk County Jail on $5,300 bond.
