Former and present Super Eagles captain John Mikel Obi and Ahmed Musa have been included in the African Team of the Decade. The sqaud which was unveiled by SuperSports and published on their verified Twitter handle on Friday, has Egytian legend Essam El Hadary, Serge Aurier of Cote d’Ivoire, Kalidou Koulibaly of Senegal, Morocco’s Mehdi Benatia and Kwadwo Asamoah of Ghana. Cote d’Ivoire’s Yaya Toure, Sadio Mane of Senegal, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang of Gabon and Asamoah Gyan of Ghana also made the list. Mikel who is arguably the only player to have played all football competitions accomplished several feats both for the national team and at the club level. With Chelsea he won 10 trophies which includes Premier League title, FA Cup, League Cup, Europa Cup and Champions League in 2012. With the Super Eagles, he played a key role as they won the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations in South Africa. And in 2016, he captained the U-23 Eagles to the 2016 Summer Olympics Bronze Medal. Mikel won FIFA World Youth Championship Silver Ball, African Footballer of the year runner-up, 2× African Young Player of the Year, 2× Chelsea Young Player of the Year. For Musa, he won six trophies for Russian team, CSKA Moscow, they are Russian league, Russian Cup and Russian Super Cup and a Saudi Professional League for Al-Nassr. Musa was top scorer of the Russian Cup in 2013 and made the list of 33 best players of the Russian Championship the same year. With the Super Eagles, he was part of the 2013 AFCON winning side, scoring in the 4-1 semi-final win against Mali. And in 2014, he was included in the CAF Team of the Year. He is also the only Nigerian to have scored in two consecutive FIFA World Cups. And Nigeria Premier League Top Scorer in 2010.
