as usual, nairalanders were dishing out advice and some suggested that one needs to make friends with thugs of an area you just moved into.



This makes sense because they can always hint you about anything bad about to go down and give you useful hints.




But wouldn't this be counterproductive in the long run? What if they team up against you maybe when you have a little misunderstanding with them? What if they arrange boys for you, since they are thugs and a leopard never changes it's spot.

There is a way to be friendly and still maintain distance, which is what was being suggested on that thread.

Being friendly and making friends are two very different things.

Making friends don't actually mean you should be extremely close to them.. Jus be that bro they can count on a pack of cigarettes, Erujeje, little tips and weed.. They value that die since dey know you can't mingle with their class so like I said jus be that BRO!!

Be at peace with 'em, greet them... Give them stuffs.. Money, foodstuff, t.shirts... Don't be too close to 'em.... they will defend you when problem arises...

Na simple. Play to their ego. Talk say you used to chop life like them when life was sweet before family wahala, job, responsibilities became heavy. Say you value their presence

Those you call thugs and area boys can be very loyal and have much more honour than any of your hypocritical educated churchy friends or even your so-called pastor. They will stand by you, advice you wisely and help you in ways you cannot imagine; if only you can overcome your superiority complex and treat them with respect. Don't encourage any criminal behaviour, but don't look down on anyone.
