Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, on Saturday, December 28, reacted to the armed robbery incident in Abuja.

Atiku said he is very happy with the proactive response of security operatives to the situation. The former vice president hoped that the security response will be at that pace in the coming year.

In a tweet, the Atiku praised the timely efforts of security officials in containing the situation, saying he was proud of the way they responded. He said that it is his hope that the attitude will continue in the new year in offering a better security for the nation.

“I am proud of the proactiveness of the Nigerian Army and Police in foiling the bank robbery in Abuja. It is my hope that this will be the face of a reinvigorated security in the new year,” he said.

Four members of an armed robbery gang that stormed the Abuja bank were arrested while one of them was also confirmed killed. The spokesperson of the FCT police command, ASP Mariam Yusuf, confirmed that normalcy has been restored in the area just hours after the five-man gang stormed the area. The bank confirmed the end of the horrible incident in an official statement. The management also assured that customers and staff of the institution were all safe and well.

"We wish to inform everyone that the attempted robbery incident that happened at one of our branches in Abuja has been foiled; customers and staff are unhurt, and the suspects have been apprehended. "The immediate response by the police and military is very commendable and we truly appreciate them for their doggedness and commitment," the bank said.

It should be noted that the security operatives trapped the daredevil armed robbers inside the bank in Abuja before they successfully restored calm.

The security operatives deserve to be commended for a job well done.
