Abia Govt. Extends Date For Reopening Of Schools, Gives Reasons

The Abia State Government has extended the date for reopening of schools following the closure of Schools run in residential buildings, Warehouses, Church halls, Village/Town halls and other make-shift.

In a statement made available to Igbere TV on Monday, Commissioner
for Education, Dr. Kanelechi CK Nwangwa said the Ministry of Education have decided to extend the reopening of Public and Private Nursery, Primary and Secondary Schools for the Second term to Monday January 13, 2020.

The statement noted that this is to to enable parents to have more time to move their children from these CLOSED SCHOOLS to the Approved Private and Public Schools (Schools in their own School Compounds) of their choice.

The statement reads,

"As part of efforts to make sure that we serve Abia parents and the Abia Child better, and to make sure that the full implementation of the closure of Schools run in residential buildings, Warehouses, Church halls, Village/Town halls and other make-shift places becomes easier, the Ministry of Education have decided to extend the reopening of Public and Private Nursery, Primary and Secondary Schools for the Second term to Monday January 13, 2020."

"This is to enable parents to have more time to move their children from these CLOSED SCHOOLS to the Approved Private and Public Schools (Schools in their own School Compounds) of their choice. In addition, the Ministry is appealing to these Approved Schools to receive the new intakes and allow them to use their old School Uniforms for sometime before changing into the new one. Private Schools are urged to allow parents arrange payment plans, when needed, to make sure that the process does not affect any Child’s education."

"The Ministry of Education therefore appeals to everyone to help the Government to give the Abia Child the right education in the right environment."

Okezie Ikpeazu is a confused man. It's unfortunate the kind of governors that have been piloting the affairs of that state.

Which government schools exactly is he talking about?

Presently all the government owned primary and secondary schools in Aba are dilapidated and in a total mess. Yesterday I was at Constitution Crescent Primary School, being my alma mater, I wept.

Information on ground says he is selling off government schools in Abia state, ( though am yet to confirm if it is handing over or outright sales as some are being taken by churches).

Azikiwe Road primary school presently is being demolished by the new owner.

St. Michael's Anglican Church took over Hospital Road Primary School.

CKC Aba is now in charge of St. Joseph's School.

Okezie Ikpeazu is no longer interested in funding schools in Abia State.

What a disaster of a governor.

You mustn't criticize everything.

Are you telling me you support nursery and sometimes primary schools in one room apartment?

Somebody will construct wooden makeshift house and affix signboard and start taking in people's children.

The news didn't say all private schools were closed, it said those in wrong places.

Please let's be more rational.

People now see school as money making venture instead of where our future hope will be shaped.

You forgot to understand that all those mushroom schools came into being because the government stopped funding the existing schools.

Aba for instance has enough government school, both primary and secondary. All that is needed is funding from government. Take a tour round all the government schools in Aba and see the mess it has become, that's why the mushroom and makeshift schools sprang up and started getting patronage from people.

Okezie Ikpeazu is just a big flop, even as a PHD holder.
