Signals Of A Failing Car Heating Control Valve by Godspower35(m): 11:55am On Dec 31, 2019
The heater control valve is a cooling and heating system component that is common in many road vehicles and trucks. The heater control valve is typically located near the fire wall and acts as a valve that allows the coolant to flow from the engine to the heater core, which is located inside the vehicle. When the valve is opened, warm engine coolant flows through the valve into the heater core so that hot air can be generated from the vehicle's vents.

If the heater control valve fails, problems with the vehicle's cooling system and heater operation may occur. As a rule, a defective heating control valve leads to some symptoms that can alert the driver to a possible problem.

Here are some signs of a defective control valve:

1.
Heater fails to work

One of the first symptoms of a faulty heater control valve is a heater that doesn't produce warm air. If the heater control valve breaks or hangs, the flow of coolant to the heater core can be restricted or stopped entirely. Without a coolant flow to the heater core, the heater cannot generate warm air for the cabin.

2.
Coolant leaks

Another common sign of a problem with the heater control valve is coolant leaks. Over time, the heater control valve can wear and tear, causing coolant to leak out of the valve. Heater control valves can also leak due to excessive corrosion from contact with old or dirty engine coolant. As a rule, a leaking control valve must be replaced to remedy the leak.

3.
Incorrect behavior of the heater

Irregular engine behavior is another symptom of a problem with the vehicle's heater control valve. A defective heater control valve may not be able to properly control the flow of coolant to the heater, which can cause problems when the heater is operating. The heater may produce hot air, but only at certain times. A defective heater control valve can also cause the temperature display to behave erratically, rise and fall quickly, making it difficult to determine the engine temperature.

LAST WORDS

When a vehicle approaches a high mileage, there can be problems and requires attention. If you experience any of the above symptoms in your vehicle or if you suspect that there is a problem with your heater control valve, have the vehicle checked by a specialist.
