Nigeria has overtaken Egypt as the largest rice producer in Africa. Nigeria now produces 8 million tonnes out of the Africa average of 14.6 million tonnes of rice annually. Egypt used to produce 4.3 tonnes annually but suffered a decline of almost 40 percent in the last one year.
This is a clear evidence that the President Muhammadu Buhari's rice policy is moving in the right direction.

Obviously, we are getting results of the government's policy. This is commendable, we can maintain the tempo.

Congratulations Nigeria.

Local rice might still be expensive now. But when more big players begin processing and production the prices will reduce drastically.. Simple Law of Demand & Supply.

Don't forget more rice mills from Lagos to Kano will ne opening soon. So let's stay positive.

This is a great and decisive decision by Buhari led administration to promote and encourage local production. The multiplier outcome of this is enormous and huge to our GDP growth cum National development plans. The endemic rate of unemployment is going to drop drastically if our youth base can key into this agenda and embrace farming as a means of self-development. Many farmers will be smiling to the bank and praying for continuity of the administration for being farmer-friendly.

Nobody stop you from farming it and sell the price you want? The fact is that producing rice in Nigeria has saved the country from needless exchange rate as far as dollars is concerned

But Op were exactly are they planting this rice ...which States majorly deal on rice production in large/commercial/export purpose?.

And why is the effect not felt among the populace or as well as it's effect in price reduction.

Cos if we have overtook Egypt in rice production, as you claim, then we have to check how much rice is sold in Egypt and compare it here, Cos the excess with which we use in overtaking Egypt must reflect practically in price fall, if not is just a mere theory .

You can't start seeing prices crashing overnight just because Nigeria is the largest producer of Rice in Africa. It takes time for that to happen. Go to the markets and see the number of Nigeria grown rice, you will be amazed. You can't sit in the comfort of your bed and type without facts.

At least the farmers will buy more insecticide and fertilizer ko? At least we will see demand for bagging products increase?
