An aide to the detained Senator Shehu Sani has described his incarceration by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) as politically motivated and one-sided.

Special Adviser to the detained senator on politics and strategy, Ahmed Suleiman, said in the statement on Saturday that the senator’s relentless criticisms of the policies of President Buhari’s administration were the real reason he was arrested and detained. He added that the name of a close ally of the president, Mallam Isa Funtua, has come into the matter but he has not been arrested.

“As far as we are concerned, Shehu Sani’s ordeal in the hands of EFCC is politically motivated. If you recall, Senator Sani has been critical of the activities of the Buhari Government, and they are not happy with him. I can assure you that they cannot silence him.

“He is supposed to be facing a civil case. How come they seized his handsets and were asking for his passwords.”
