TotalChild Children and Teens Network (TCTN) is pleased to announce our Child Sexual Abuse Awareness and Prevention Campaign Project for year 2020 tagged Children Against Sexual Exploitation (CASE). The objective of this project is to create awareness on child sexual abuse and teach children and young people how to prevent it before it occurs and how to get help when necessary. Oyo State has over 2.4 million children who are at risk of child sexual abuse. Out of this population, 1 in 4 girls and 1 in 6 boys will be sexually abused before the age of eighteen. 90% of this abuse is likely to come from family members or people known to the child while 10% may come from strangers.

Child sexual abuse has devastating and long-term consequence for the child, families and communities as a whole. Victims are far more likely to experience anxiety and depression, among countless other serious health problems later in life due to the trauma they experienced as a child. Child sexual abuse affects children of every race, gender, religion, and socio-economic status, not to mention a majority of time, the abuse is committed by someone the child knows. Many people believe that child sexual abuse will not affect their family, but statistics prove that these situations occur far too close to home. The good news is we can all prevent child sexual abuse.

During the last year, we have been piloting Children Against Sexual Exploitation with some public and private schools in Ibadan. We executed the program in five schools and were able to reach 2,300 students. The impact has been tremendous with most of the students coming out to say that they are being sexually abused and needed help. We have also appeared live on some radio stations in Ibadan metropolis to enlighten the public on child sexual abuse and how to prevent it. The feedback from those radio programs has been overwhelming. The Children Against Sexual Exploitation program educate students on what sexual abuse is, myths and facts on child sexual abuse, perpetrators and pedophiles, effect of child sexual abuse, how to prevent it, personal safety tips and what to do if sexual abuse occur.

We have seen measurable success and wants to expand our Children Against Sexual Exploitation program to address the issue of child sexual abuse in Ibadan and environs. Our goal is to reach a minimum of 100,000 students by reaching out to 50 schools during the three academic sessions of 2020 and also reachout to children and young people in religious institutions and orphanage homes.

If you are interested in what we do, you can get involved in 3 ways:

1. Volunteer Partner: Join our vibrant team of volunteers to train students on how to prevent child sexual abuse in schools, orphanage homes, religious institutions etc
2. Resource Partner: Donate academic materials, products and other gift items to be given free during our programmes and outreaches to children and young people. You can also donate materials, equipment and facilities to support our cause.
3. Financial Partner: Donate fund to help us produce the workbook on child sexual abuse to be given to student free during our training session. There are a lot of benefits for sponsors of this program
