I am a prospective Engineering student outside Nigeria and looking to study Mechatronics engineering. I also have the option to choose business and administration(Specialising in Finance and Accounting). My fellow Nigerians with knowledge of the labour market and industry. What are the prospects of putting an mechatronics expertise to work in Nigeria as I plan to return after my studies to help develop my country?

Mechatronics engineering is the synergistic combination of Mechanical engineering, Electronic engineering, Computer engineering,computer science, Control engineering, and Systems Design engineering in order to design, and manufacture useful products and other applications.

Sorry for coming this Late. i just saw your post, but i dint want to hesitate, it might help someone else. I hope u should almost be done in your study of mechatronics. I want to congratulate you if you have taken this option. You will be one the most relevant Nigerians in Nigeria as soon as get back. There is a very big opportunity for you in Lecturing here in Nigeria if u ar a mechatronics engineer. Mechatronic is still very new in all our universities and polytechnics. You can work anywhere, Aviation, transport, oil and gas, production, etc, mane it. Your future is as bright as a medical doctor in Nigeria. please be aware that Nigeria is a developing country and much is still needed. Nigeria is a big market for you. Regards .... Mechatronics engineering presents an interesting job prospect for graduates in the field. Mechatronics engineering, as you know it, blends several engineering practices for the production of a hybrid system.
There are so many hybrid systems before now manufactured before the arrival of mechatronics engineering practice. To produce such a system, more than one engineer with different engineering backgrounds would have to come together to make such a dream a reality.
Mechatronics engineering aims to simplify such tasks by the production of graduates with almost all engineering background concentrated in design and maintenance of whatsoever systems.
By the way, examples of a hybrid system (system requiring different parts and different engineers with different backgrounds to manufacture them) are cars, computers, refrigerators, robots, and many more.
All of these systems have both mechanical and electrical parts that need to be engineered. Some even have telecommunication parts and electronic parts in them that need to be engineered.
