Should She Go For Law Or Journalism? by Nobody: 8:45pm On Jan 10, 2020
Evening guys.

I am confused. I initially wanted to take JAMB UTME and fill mass communication as my course in UNIBEN but as many of us know, it has been scraped and spilit to seven courses.

Six out of these seven are not my thing at all. I am left with English and Literature, Law, Theatre arts and Journalism.

My parents have warned me not to take theatre arts. I personally don't fancy studying English and literature.

I am scared of law because 98% of times, I have heard that law is extremly stressful and boring.

Journalism is cool but is a law degree not more valuable than that of a journalist?

Please people, help me decide as I have just 48 hours to make up my mind and purchase the form. Thanks.

Journalism and Law, think about the two, review the two, and the one you love over the other should be your choice.
I'm of the belief that one major reason, Nigerians and most Africans lead boring lives when it comes to career is because they chose to do what they needed to do not what would've given then happiness.
At the end of the day, everything nairalanders say will only be suggestions.
So really think about which one you'd love to engage in freely, without feeling pressured or stressed

She should go to the oda room

English and literature has a broader spectrum. You can then focus during masters

Law is a bit better, I think people should be encouraging their kids to go for STEM courses nowadays, cause they have the only carriers that matters now.

Which do you have passion for/about? With the amount of unemployed people in Nigeria, it's time we realised a degree is overrated........

If you feel that you can keep up with the rigours of Studying Law, then i believe that you should go for it.
No matter the advice, it still boils down to what you can do, and where your interests lie

My dear,

State your criteria eg. Happiness, prestige, lifestyle, passion, financial freedom.

Rank the criteria eg. Happiness could be your most important criterion. You give it a 5 star

Happiness-5
Passion-5
Lifestyles-4 (eg. You like jaiye jaiye, you no fit mk am as Doctor o)
Etc, etc

Calculate the score for each course, from there you take your pick .. Cheers

A Journalism degree may take you farther than a law degree in less time.

You can practice journalism anywhere in the world, but with a law degree, you can only practice in Nigeria. If you leave Nigeria, you will have to go to Law School in the other country, or even repeat University in some cases

It depends on how much time you have and where you see yourself in seven years. Journalism will take up five years of your life tops, Law could take up to seven

Think about what gives you joy. The one you have passion for and go for it. I had the opportunity to choose between law and mass communication. As a kid I have always have passion for mass communication, even joined press club in secondary school, my family wanted law, I went for mass communication. Don't do it because of what others want, go for what you have passion and comfortable for. I wish you all the best.

This is naija where those who studied engineering are bankers
Those who studied Economics are Marketers
Those who studied BioChemistry are Customer care reps
Better do the one that’s be easy for you
After all the end does not usually determine the means
