ANIAGWU CALLS FOR RANCOUR-FREE OPERATION BETWEEN MEDIA BOARDS, MANAGEMENTS

…RECEIVES BACKING ON REPOSITIONING OUTFITS

The Delta State Commissioner for Information has called on management of the state-owned media organizations to desist from struggling with their board on policy issues just as three boards of The Pointer, DBS Warri and Asaba, today threw their weight behind the Commissioner for Information, to reposition the agencies on the path of profitability.

At the meeting with the Commissioner in Asaba, the board chairmen also called for a review of the laws establishing the media organizations and pledged their support in repositioning Delta Broadcasting Service (DBS Asaba and Warri stations) as well as Delta Printing and Publishing Company Limited (D.P.P.C.L) publishers of The Pointer Newspaper.

Mr Aniagwu reeled out some of the refurbishment made in the three media houses to place them on the path of profitability in less than six months of assuming office, adding that such developments were made without pestering the state government for funds while soliciting the support of the board members.

‘’I want to plead with you (Boards) that a lot of sacrifices will be made to (reposition our media agencies) between now and the next six months or possibly one year. These agencies need to be put in a position that they can also take care of the sacrifices that you have made.

We believe that once we can synergize, the Ministry, boards and management of our parastatals will be able to achieve the vision of marketing the activities of the state government to the rest of the world. We are convinced that the moment we collaborate, we will record appreciable progress.

I am happy that members of the boards are thinking along the same line which is to reposition these agencies and place them on the path of profitability. They have shown that there is need to improve content and the working environment for the staff who work in these agencies’’ he said.

While frowning at reported cases of indiscipline and insubordination among civil servants in the ministry of information and its parastatals, Aniagwu charged the management of the three media outfits not to undermine the boards, even as he warned that complacency would not be condoned.

In their remarks, the board chairman of The Pointer Newspaper, Chief David Oghenekevwe and his colleagues from DBS Asaba and Warri stations, Mr. Felix Ofou and Mike Osuoza respectively, commended the Commissioner for the initiative to restore the glory of the state media houses.

Having pledged their support, they also drew the attention of the Commissioner to some challenges faced by the media houses and suggested ways of tackling them in the interest of Deltans.

In attendance at the meeting was the General Manager DBS Asaba, Lady Evelyn Binitie; The Pointer, Mr Monday Uwagwu; and DBS Warri, Mr. Malcom Oteri.
