Here, I want to encourage everyone not to give in to this seemingly easy way to make huge money in the long run. Yes it seems easy and yes it seems you can make it big because if this biting economy. But consider the following write up and if you have suffered from any in the last one month. Then it's time you quit before it causes more harm like it did to me

Here are reasons why you should not gamble:

1. Gambling is the cause of indolence

Many gamblers are depending on luck of having that jackpot money and so they tend to lose interest in their job. If you think you can win that jackpot money, do not dream of it because the more you long for it the more you will not win it. Look for a job so that you will forget about the vice.

2. Gambling is addictive

Unless you have full control of yourself, you will most likely get addicted to gambling if your dream is to win big money. Many people think that they are just relaxing at first but they end up hooked to the vice. What hooks them is when they win for the first time. People gamble because of the money. If the person wins, he craves for more. If he loses, he wants to get back what he lost and so the cycle goes on and the person becomes addicted.

3. Gambling will not make you rich

No matter what people say, gambling is a vice that could make you penniless if you don’t stop. A compulsive gambler will find all means to finance his vice. He will embezzle money or borrow money from people in order to gamble. The pattern of gambling is the same to all people. Win-lose-win-lose, this goes on and on if the gambler does not stop. The result is the same. The gambler always ends up the loser. I guess you know why. Gambling is patterned to be that way. There is no certainty. If you win today, you lose tomorrow. Perhaps not tomorrow but the next day or the other day, but there is no gambler who won and never lost.

4. Gambling causes stress

Unless you always win which I’m sure rarely happens, gambling stresses a person. You cannot say that you are relaxing or just playing because if you lost a substantial amount of money, you will go home with an empty pocket plus a bad headache. Gambling is stressful especially if you are in front of the machine and the bonus does not come out. So you will be left at the edge of your chair eagerly awaiting a bonus that will not come anyway and will only come out for the next player who will take your place if you leave the machine where you have already deposited all your money. In bingo you can have a heart attack if you are only waiting for one number and finally the next number called is not yours but some other player’s number which won him that million jackpot money. Gambling is always a chance of luck. So you can never be certain what may happen next.

5. Gambling makes people rude and moody

I have seen a lot of people who have been morally changed by gambling. The vice makes a person rude. The greed to win makes a person rude to people around him because his mind is engrossed with the money he will win. Gamblers who are already addicted to the vice will not think of other people. They will only think of how to finance their vice and how to win back their lost money.

6. Gambling deters the persons drive to work

Because the gambler usually relies on luck, he does not seem to mind finding work. The gambler waits for the time when he hits the jackpot and become an instant millionaire. He has seen too much money already and he will not be satisfied with small earnings and small winnings. He wants the big jackpot money and he will keep gambling and longing for the jackpot.

7. Gambling ruins a family

Gamblers are hard to reform and what usually happens is that the gambler ends up having no family. Nobody wants to live with a gambler who is moody and who squanders money. So the result is the spouse could either file for a divorce or just leave the gambling spouse. Many families have been torn apart by gambling.

Gambling is also considered a form of infidelity, financial infidelity because it is considered lying, and that hurts any spouse and can lead to a divorce.

I was into football betting for 2-3 years, and it was obvious that I was losing so much more than I was gaining, nobody had to tell me to stop. I still find it amazing how easy it was for me.

Many people are in the same shoes that I wore, but they still find it difficult to quit, even when you address their losses. They say "Winners don't quit, quitters don't win. When you quit, you lose" . Those words are true, but when it comes to gambling, you never win if you're addicted. It's always a win-lose situation. This means that when an addict wins, chances are he'll continue betting, and possibly exhaust the money on other betting sessions. It's almost always a futile cycle.

I have been there and I learnt the hard way

Gambling is not bad and you can actually become rich through gambling. The best way to win when gambling is to play with the money you can afford to lose and also not to be greedy.

The tendency to be greedy is a lot higher than the other way round. It's difficult to control.

Stake what you can afford to lose is a quote invented by the bookies to lure gamblers into losing more money. By the time you check your betting transaction list you will notice you've staked more than you could ever afford to lose while actually staking what you can afford to lose. I'm a gambler though and I don't regret it.

Well said. The bottom line is control your emotions, avoid all forms of addiction coz one could spur another.
Addiction is a long list and maybe coz gambling involves loosing hard earned money but then other addictions too causes more trauma

Drug addiction
Alcohol
Sex
Masturbation
Gambling
Anger
Greed/desperation for money etc.
