[s]Civil service is performed by a civil servant,
a bureaucrat hired by the country’s government who works for the public sector;
conversely, public service is performed by a public servant, a person appointed by a member of the government to serve the population and perform public duties.
Civil servants are top ranked employees who work in various government’s departments and offices and whose duties vary according to their role and position.
Public servants are not has high ranked and provide basic services to the population and to the most needy segments of society.

Civil servants are individuals employed by the government (Local, State or Federal) and are registered under the Civil Service Commission except those in the Armed Forces.

Public servants are individuals who deliver direct service to the general population. They may be Civil servants or privately employed.
Examples: Elected government officials, Doctors, Nurses, Clergy men, Police Officers.

For the purpose of clarity I will start by saying that civil servant are bureaucrats or professionals working for the government.example, teachers, employees of various ministries across the nation, lectures etc.civil servants outlives the tenure of an elected government.
Public servants on the other hand, are people who are appointed by an elected government who's job or tenure cease to exist once the tenure of the government who appointed them ends.example, political appointees.

Civil servants enable govt to deliver its no programmes to the people. These would normally be career minded employees according to the civil service Act, state or Federal. Teachers employed by ministry of education are civil servants for example.

Public servants can be elected or appointed. Buhari, his ministers and their exco are public servants.

But civil servants can be seconded into public service. Say from ministry of finance to FIRS. Otten it can all be fluid and blurred especially in 9ja where we don't strictly follow the rules.

Believe it or not, no one has the answer to this question in nigeria. You just take a position, because the two overlap - isn't a civil servant a public officer and isn't a public servant in govt service?

What I picked from the difference you explained between Civil Servants and Public Servants, is that all Civil Servants are Public Servants, because they both receive their salaries from Public Purse.

Civil servants are government employees recruited, promoted and disciplined by the civil service commission while public servants are other government staff( be it thru recruitment, election, selection or appointment) that are not under the civil service commission.

A civil servant is a government employee that is employed through the Civil Service Commission, while a public servant is any Government worker or employee that is being paid salary or wages with government funds. Therefore a civil servant is a public servant, BUT a public servant is not a civil servant.
Re: What Is The Difference Between A Civil Servant And A Public Servant? by Trump2020: 8:38am On Jan 18, 2020
Public servants are those in the military and paramilitary. The president and elected officers are not public servants.

I think staff of the foreign affairs ministry are also classified as public servants. I think that is the only ministry that is not under the civil service.

Public officers is different from public servants. Elected officers are public officers and the Revenue mobilization and fiscal commission is their equivalent of civil service commission.

Staff of the national assembly not elected members are under the NA Service Commission while the judiciary is under Judiciary Service Commission.

You asked a question and attached the answer under it! What other concise difference do you want?

A civil servant is an employee of the government i.e working in the Federal Civil Service

A public servant is anyone who serves the public and is an employee of the people. President, Governors, Legislators etc... ideally

In Nigeria however, public servants lord over their employers and have seized power from the people.

This is a good question which had never crossed my mind before this. When I hear civil servant I think people employed directly by the government like say a doctor in a government hospital or a judge. whereas public servant is employed by someone in the government like say a teacher, police officer etc.
They might be synonymous but the civil servant works directly for the government whilst a public servant works for the public.
exactly
