Buhari: Lack Of Foreign Investments Denying Youth Employment by Racoon(m): 11:49pm On Jan 19, 2020
President Muhammadu Buhari has observed that the lack of foreign investment is denying employable young persons the opportunity to work in the country.

In an article titled “A new case for a Commonwealth based on trade,” made available to the media in Abuja on Sunday, he said greater United Kingdom engagement with Nigeria will bring jobs in untapped sectors.

He said: “For my country, greater UK engagement in its economy would bring jobs to under-tapped sectors, such as agriculture and manufacturing. Millions of highly skilled, English-speaking but underemployed young people, are eager to work but without the opportunities that foreign investment can bring to create jobs and build businesses.”

The president noted that with the United Kingdom certain to exit the European Union, like many other Commonwealth leaders, he is also seeking a new settlement, “not only of closer relations between the UK and my own nation but of unleashing trade within the club in which we together shall remain.”

He observed that even though the relations between Nigeria and the UK are close and longstanding, it has become increasingly defined by Britain’s membership of the European Union.

He added:  “A new free trade agreement would reconfigure this, presenting new opportunities for both. As the largest economy in Africa, my country of nearly 200 million people has a great deal to offer: Nigeria’s vast natural energy and mineral resources, unbarred through the ending of customs barriers, could help supply growth for companies in all corners of the UK.

“Greater access would also be forthcoming to one of the world’s fastest expanding groups of consumers – the Nigerian middle classes.”

Foreign investors don't like it when there is no freedom of speech, and the executive branch refuses to obey court orders.

Another silly lie & blame game as usual for zombies to masturbate upon.So why did the lying government kept obsessing Nigerians with how our Direct Foreign investment(DFI) have significantly improved, Foreign Reserve/Forex have tremendously increased and Nigerian is now one of the investor's destination of choice in the Ease of Doing Business? Of course, all nah wash.

Now after putting more than 15M Nigerians into unemployment, more than 94M into abject poverty and calling Nigerian youth as "lazy leeches" always looking for freebies within 4years, they're now blaming the lack of foreign investment for their self created problems.

Does the government needs that to make the youth profitably engaged? Go to Ikeja Computer Village(Lagos), Wuse Market(Abuja), GSM Market(Kano), etc and find hardworking youth working hard to earn a living.Only provide steady power and see our potentials explode beyond limits.

Meanwhile, their children are comfortably employed in choice government agencies(CBN, DPR, DSS, FIRS, NNPC
) while the downtrodden masses are left to contend with recruitment as police constables, N-Power etc.So who is fooling who in Nigeria?

Teach, tell and help Nigerians to invest in factories and manufacturing rather than empty houses, hotels and barren lands left for years..

That's how countries mop up employment.

With more than half of graduate unemployed, I have to say the president doesn't know what he is saying, if the country can't even provide enough job for 3 quarter of it citizen and have to blame it on foreign investment, then that country is a failed nation, china population is about ×4 of ours, and there employment rate is far better than ours, this is because the country has created enough job for it citizen's. And where are the millions of jobs buhari promised us?

Gen. Buhari's incompetence has no comparison. Here is a man who has devoted great chunk of his time since swearing in globe trotting looking for elusive foreign investors. He became the most travelled Nigerian leader yet has nothing to show for it. No wonder he's been accused of traveling to seek medical health instead of the reported foreign investors.

The fool of a leader does know that if stayed back in Niger and worked hard that foreign investor would come. Now he is talking as if he didn't cause the flight of local and foreign investors he met on 29th May 2015.

Yes it is for several reasons

1.Unnecessary price controls. If we removed subsides in the petroleum sector, and allowed fuel marketers to set the price of fuel...it would attract a lot of foreign investment into that sector. Instead, we keep subsides in place which prevent the companies from making a profit.

2.Poor governance at all levels. The Police is poorly funded, and the state and local governments too are just money collecting receptacles. (As an example...see Boko Haram caused by years of neglect at the state level, and LG level)

3. We don't want to pay for 24/7 power. We cannot have light for 24/7 at a price of 5000 naira or less...or even free of charge. Meawhile DISCOS and GENCOS are hobbled by price controls, and cannot even access funding from banks to run, and are in a deep financial hole of at least N1 trillion naira. No power...no investment.

So foreign investors should come and employ the youths you claimed to be lazy?

They should come and invest where rule of law is not respected?

They should come and invest amidst insecurity?

They should come and invest where the president can not transmit power to vice when on leave?

This PMB na wa you ooo

The Chinese are an industrial nation. They also have a strict meritocracy in their education sector, and also promote technical and vocational education.

Crucially, they don't try to get electricity power for free, and they ruthlessly punish corruption.

Hence, investment flows in.

No sir you are completely wrong.

The reason youth unemployment is very high in Nigeria now is because of you. It is because Nigeria kept appointing and putting you in government positions you are not trained and prepared to handle, so you only get there to enrich yourself, your family, tribesmen and political allies you like, while chanting I will fight corruption to fool Nigerians.

You further make things worst by appointing the wrong people to manage the wrong jobs just like you were made military governor, minister, president when you were supposed to be the head of a kindred meeting only.

The reason for high youth unemployment in Nigeria is not foreigners refusing to invest in Nigeria, it is Nigerian government's inability to create enabling environment that will encourage and inspire local industrialization and entrepreneurship in Nigeria by building adequate infrastructure like steady electricity supply, good road networks, reduced interest rates on loans to local/indigenous small scale industries and entrepreneurs, adequate security to protect lives and investments of Nigerians anywhere in Nigeria.

You failed woefully in these areas, so how do you want youth unemployment to come down.

You don't beg investors to come to your country, when they see your country excelling on their own and making impact within West Africa and Africa, they will want to come and tap into the breakthrough and so they will naturally come without you going to beg them.

Foreign investors are humans looking for where to increase their wealth, they are not father Christmas looking for poor, hopeless nations to rebuild, they want to quadruple their wealth, so they go to where their investment is secured and can yield profit for them.

Stop begging foreign investors to come and invest in Nigeria. Focus on building adequate infrastructure in Nigeria, curbing insecurity and allow Nigeria's judiciary to be independent because you Mr Buhari have murdered Nigeria's judiciary, and justice is no longer guaranteed in Nigeria, average Nigerians are living in fear!
