Many Nigerians are so dull and dumb especially on this nairaland. Many of them are saying, this is a good deal. How is this beneficial to Nigeria. We are paying them to install street lights for us and meter on Abuja. We are paying them millions in pounds. This companies that cannot even get contract again in UK are coming to Africa to rip us off through this dumb buhari

You may be full but not the rest of us

while Savannah will invest £315 million in the acquisition and investment of ingas assets in Nigeria

Does the word INVEST and ACQUISITION in Nigeria translate to Nigeria paying them?

Saying people are dumb and dull when it was you all along
Re: UK-Africa Summit: Four British Companies Sign Deals With Nigeria by Monjerk: 9:17am On Jan 21, 2020
If those contracts are what you call investment deals. Then we have a very long way to go.

Those are very simple contracts that can be executed by small Nigerian firms, not to talk of big firms.

The foreigners will always continue to milk us since we refused to have sense.

Ghana and other African countries will get better investment deals while Nigeria go there to award contact to UK firms, calling it investment.
Let me tell you one thing, those firms will come here with their engineers to do the jobs, only labourers and helpers will be employ in Nigeria.

How is someone winning a contract to install street lights an investment deal

He will bring his equipment from overseaas and the hosting country will end up paying him Pound sterling

How is that one investment deal.

The company has simply run out of clients in Europe and therefore decided to bring his services to Africa to make money.

Investment deals is manufacturing companies, big industrial companies leaving thier base in Europe to come to Nigeria to invest. This way the basic component of thier trade and commerce stays in the country they are domicile in.

These ones are just coming to make money and see the dullard smilling with his goro teeth smh

That's it.

Kindly go over the content of the news again. Your darling president has just signed deals for UK companies to come and install streetlight and co. How does that translate into foreign investments/deals? Who benefits at the end of the day? You can do better than this.

This stupidd Government can’t differentiate between cash and carry business and an investment one! What a terrible entity this government has become.

Can’t the minister who followed buhari to London tell him the differences? These people want to run Nigeria to the ground!
Re: UK-Africa Summit: Four British Companies Sign Deals With Nigeria by CSTR2: 9:41am On Jan 21, 2020
I thought it was a deal where British investors would come into Nigeria and invest.

Instead, they are the ones benefiting from contracts.
We just went there to give them contracts. They are not even going to build their production in Nigeria.

The British are notoriously frugal. And our president is not half as smart.

How do some of these translate to growing our economy?

They build 5 control towers; are we talking about the skilled labor and construction materials they will use ? How is this attracting investment; rather this is a loan unless they are building it for free

They are installing £5m worth of smart meters? For free? Are the meters manufactured here or they are going to sell the meters the AEDC? How is this an investment?

What I see are indirect loans and not investments!!!

At the end of the day, it favours the colonialists more than Nigeria.

It's OK. Buhari went to spend money instead of make money

Can't wait to hear the deals being struck by Rwanda. That's when you'll realize the gravity of having a retiree as a president.
Kagame is a despicable man but you can't deny his brilliance.

Absolutely brilliant man.

He strikes good deals. Their proposed airport is stunning.

No wonder they are going to grow by a whopping 8% this year.

This are contract awards in the form of 'deals'. Non of all these deals aim to solve pestering issues concerning the country.

Smart metering to do what...measure hours non availability of electricity?

I rest my case.

You call this deals? Who benefits from these deals. These are deals that should go to local companies to create jobs locally and iit s being handed to British companies. Our so-called leaders are so little minded and unwise.

The comments on this thread are a perfect example of what Nairaland has become. People only comment based on the political party or ethnic group that they support. The very enlightening and objective commentators that we had in the past are all gone.

Several things were mentioned in the first post, but most commentators had selective blindness. They only saw what they wanted to see.

The known PDP supporters only saw the contracts for street lights and airport towers. They didn't see that  Savannah Petroleum will invest £315 million in the acquisition and investment of ingas assets in Nigeria.

The APC supporters only saw Savannah's investment. They didn't see the airport and streetlight contracts.
