While on the tour, Prof. Chinedum Nwajiuba reached out to and interacted with people of Ndiagu Azu village, the immediate host community, who have residence and shops within and around the site. Addressing the residents and other members of the community, Vice –Chancellor, Prof. Nwajiuba noted that universities do not allow local markets in the premises but because he appreciates them and what they are doing, his administration has agreed to map out a good site for construction of market for the traders, while the space which they formerly occupied would be used for the construction of new University Faculty of Management and Social Sciences. He asked their leaders to list the names of those who would want to trade in the new market so that spaces would be allocated to them. He affirmed that necessary government approval will be gotten to ensure that no administration after him will quit them, while promising them water supply and better drainages at the market. In the spirit of the joy of the new year and in expression of love and goodwill to the host community and some staff and students who were present at the site, the Vice Chancellor, patronized one of the petty traders, bought off all fried yam and bean cake (Akara) to share to everyone, to the admiration and applause of observers and partakers in the” free feeding galore”.
