Sunnyobums: Within a confined area like your kitchen there's accumulation of escaped gas which can lead to explosion when ignited. Outdoors any gas that escapes quickly dissipates preventing the risk of explosion. 2 Likes |

armyofone: Like I said, they'll have to decides which is more valuable between their lives and the gas canisters. Building a metal cage to secure a gas canister is not rocket science. Might cost you some money but I think the cost will be far lesser than what your life is worth. 1 Like |

This calls for collaborative efforts in homes an in all gas refiling centres to check-mate every cylinder that comes to patronise them. With this having said will help in curbing explosions mainly at home side. lets all be careful in dealing with anything called gas. do not let the children cross the yellow tapes. |

tropaz: Yes. Very very dangerous. If there is a leakage and you strike a match or use a lighter there, you are a gonner. Your gas cylinder ought to be somewhere far from where the burner is. You would have to use a long hose/pipe, to connect both. Its for your own safety cos if you rely on the Nigerian govt to do things like checking for expired cylinders or training vendors properly in safety procedures, you would be wasting your time. |

I am surprised that there is so much emphasis on the gas cylinder itself leaking according to responses trending. The gas cooker itself, is the culprit in most cases. Aging gas cookers with old noozles and switches tend not to lock properly, leading to gas leak even when turned off. The user should be attentive to gas smell, especially when the cooker is not in use. As a preventive measure, I switch off the head of the gas cylinder when it's not in use. Another important thing for users of cooking gas to do is to ensure that the kitchen ia airy. Always leave the windows open to avoid accumulation of gas for any reason. |

Surulereman:my brother I am surprised they are mostly concerned about the gas cylinders forgetting there is a hose connecting the gas cylinder and the cooker, of which there can be a leakage from the hose. The best way to be safe is always check for leaks and ensure proper ventilation, it has saved many lives which I know of. |
