Earlier yesterday @Truthfully83 shared a personal experience on his visit (along with a law practitioner friend) to 3 prisons in Nigeria.

In his words, you'll weep for this nation, at the sight of inmates. Many of whom are innocent.

From sources unknown, NPS currently has 75,489 prisoners out of which 24,450 are convicted while 51,139 of them are awaiting trial.

Could this be true? Or a mere exaggeration? He went further to say in one prison, 645 prisoners are sharing 2 toilets. How inhumane. Why then did they change the name from prison to correctional facility

I weep for this country.. meanwhile some of them are on bail..but because they couldn't meet the condition or due to judicial corrupt official their people abandon them.I have expected to see Evans likes in this condition those who had committed unbailable offence.Go and see how his likes lives big in prison.. Wadume has not been to charge to court, he lives in air-conditioning cell around Aso rock..the Poor's carried heavy loads...

Yahoo boys that always get 6months sentence is ok.
I used to think the sentence was too much, but 6months in such a condition is worse than 6 years in a norway prison

This is extremely pathetic and so so bad. Sometimes I wonder if it’s a curse or we generally as Nigerians are just heartless. I mean who are the government? Is it not the people? Do we not elect these set of people? Greed coupled with wickedness is the bane of the day everywhere. Absolutely nothing works, the contractors are ghosting projects, teachers are now petty traders, even NYsC can be ghosted, permanent secretaries are embezzling in every parastatal, you can’t get FG’s jobs without ‘connection’, the security agencies are grossly underfunded, the ones that are adequately funded don’t get to use the funds as someone’s lurking will embezzle it, the correctional facilities are jam packed with no Care because whatever allocation for them is been embezzled , the judges keep adjourning because the policemen can’t find enough evidence or because they’re tryin to implicate another person, senators building mansions but build two blocks in schools as projects with inferior materials, governors sharing wheelbarrows as ‘empowerment’, one even shared ‘shoe shining kit’, Everything is just so Messed up.

The Nigerian judiciary system is part of the cause of such national disgrace.we say we are practicing the British type of legal system yet their prisons is not as congested as ours.a case goes to court and before you say "jack", the judge will adjourn the case to 3 weeks or 6 weeks sometimes to months.the judges are too lazy to take enough cases to justify the jumbo pay.imagine a case of theft lasting for as long as one year.if judges apply some seriousness and strict attitude to the start and prompt finishing of cases it will help decongest the prisons.the prisons is not the only problem because they give them food no matter how terrible the food may be.the major problem is the police station where you have the most inhumane form of detaining the guilty and the innocent without food.our police stations bring the biggest disgrace to us on the international level.also our journalist are the most useless the world has seen.they stay in country and journalist from other countries, come in,investigate issues and report to the public.the only thing our journalist know how to do is to follow politicians behind like flies and report irrelevant cases.if the journalist in this country were exposing such police cells and prison cells,it would have helped a lot.The Nigerian journalist do their own investigation at cyber cafes where they source for stories.shame.they are not adventurous using mini undetected cameras like their counterparts in other countries.I can bet you that the journalist that got this pics is not Nigerian.journalism is the civil societies greatest weapon against inhumane acts.In 80s and 70s,journalist were hard working but now they just wash the ass of our politicians.
